Why that -- if it is just fanwork (I see that including CF's music would be a problem)?
I didn't suggest that such a CD should be sold but given to the fans for cost of the copy + postage/packaging if necessary.

1) The author wants it to be a space combat simulator more than words can express, but he knows he's SOL.
2) The author likes the idea of an interactive story with graphics and music, but the author only has just so much free time. So this probably isn't going to happen - at least, not at the author's hands – unless someone wants to pay him for it.
3) So what FO fans get is what the author is doing now.

"SOL"?

That for sure would be the best solution... But: is there any possibility for it in a small approach like this? With all the copyright problems... I doubt it.

... unless fans are doing it themselves??

Do not misunderstand me: I am absolutely *HAPPY* with (reading) the story! After all a good story stands on its own. It was (and is) just my feeling that I and many fans would like to use an application that combines story, music, etc. rather than starting those mp3 files and looking at the fan pictures before I dive into the story.

@the author: What I am suggesting is a fan project. Call it a "mod" of the story. I would *hate* the idea of the story being told any way the author would not want it to be told. Of course, the idea would make no sense, if not enough people were interested in such a project. I have already asked a workmate --the "Macromedia Director" specialist in our company-- if he would be interested in doing such a project. He is.

Hm.

Its not a bad idea to have an interactive, macromedia director style story book. It could get too complicated though, what do you put in, copyright issues. Nevertheless it is interesting....

[lawyer-politician-snake oil salesman hat on]Once the author has finished one path through a story that is similiar to what ITF would have been like, if someone else then takes those words and incorporates them into a fan project, it is out of the author's hands. [lawyer-politician-snake oil salesman hat off]

It's "interesting" how S.O.L. can also mean Sierra On Line.

Enjoying the new updates. My thanks to the author for continuing them.

That said, time for another edition of Bekenn's NitPicks:

The game map seems to be essentially the same one that AoG published in the 2nd Edition Rules Compendium (p. 185 -- and yes, I am obsessed. Stop looking at me like that!), which shows a jump route between Eridani and Sh'Lassan, and marks the Mentab-Sh'Lassan jump route as restricted; the trip should only be two jumps long.

Hmm... wait a minute.... I just checked my... erm... "vivid memory" of the image of the game map that was posted months and months ago. The portion shown is quite similar to the AoG map, but definitely not the same. For one, the AoG map shows a major jump route between Epsilon and Altair... hmm....

Then, the AoG map is also for 2257, but surely jump routes wouldn't change that much in seven years, would they?

Then again, maybe I'm just too darned obssessed.

We started with the AOG map (with slight modifications to bring it in line with our current references at the time), and then expanded it out from there in all directions. The ITF map covers much, much more territory than the AOG map. For the expansion we used episode references, our current knowledge of our galactic neighborhood, including use of a device that would tell us the probable makeup of a star system based on current knowledge of a particular star type, and poetic license.

There's a game map available? Where?
• RandyRandy Master Storyteller
As I said, the AOG map covers only a small, central portion of the much larger area we covered for our game.

You can find information about AOG HERE.

Correct. I was asking if that means the ItF map was legitimately available to the public anywhere

hm.. i wonder what the author would say if a mod team wanted to use his storyline (IMHO that mod would have to use the best available program for that purpose (not necessarily the best looking, but best suited engine))...
