Just make sure you get the latest Service packs from MS to plug those security holes...

i got 1 and 2, but i was told that 3 has a problem with it and it messes with your computer.

3 does have problems. But I use it and it works. It's biggest problems happen on servers. For instance, it completely screws up mail servers.

You'll find you won't have crashes for a lot longer than between one night and the next morning.

And it gets even better with Windows Server 2003 the new server that'll be out someitme this year. I've had it running for a few weeks now, and it runs very very nicely

2K pro is the best of the worst..

wish I could run it ok on my laptop but as usual the harddrive is weeny and I want to keep the dang thing as clean as I can... I have too many apps, too many data files as it is.

(and for those of you agog at the 'Macintosh Zealot' talking about PC's, I've never once said I didn't also have a PC, experience with PC's or refused to use one. they both have thier place. (besides without PC's what would we give all the lowly plebs... ))

As for OS..I just use XP Pro.

My server is running server 2003 RC1 (yes I know RC2 is out, but I don't feel like messing with this install)...on a lowly 500mhz 256ram box, it runs rather nicely..granted, all it's doing is web serving on a super low traffic site.

I'm running 2003 RC2 on a AMD K6/2-300 with 320 megs of ram. Runs very very well suprisingly.

I don't know how you have managed with that crappy 98 for so long! You will be very very happy with a Win 2000 after 98.

I have had Win 2000 running a long time a 24h/day and it has crashed only a few times and all those crashes have been due to a game, or a use of some other quite unreliable and heavy software.

Btw, it's running Seti@Home all the time nights and days unless I do something which needs CPU power for something else, such as games, or 3D/2D-graphics stuff.

Hate to say it, but it's a pretty good OS.

well after 95 for 4 years 98 was fine. in fact i probably wouldnt have changed if it didnt crash at an opportune time and piss me off so much. i mean yea it crashed a whole bunch but i got used to that.

but i havent shut off 2k in like 2 days and it isnt funky!!!!
