Opposing Force: The Ending

RhettRhett (Not even a monkey)
I just finished this great expansion but am left wondering, "Thats it?". To avoid spoilers, let me just ask after everything goes black after the G-Man leaves-that is the end? Do you just have to quit out of the game? If so, that is the most ambigous ending to any game I have ever seen. Thanks.

EDIT: Everything doesn't go black, actually. You can still see your HUD and jump (and hear yourself land).

You know, I've still to play both the expansion sets for Half-life. One day...

Yep... that is it. The end, there is nothing after that. Zip, nada, nothing.

A "similiar" end was on Blue Shift (another great, but short, expansion) but you never met the G-man.

I don't know about you but the most interesting thing which I'm waiting on Half-Life 2 is that how are they (Valve) gonna continue the story?

Am I gonna have to shoot up crack to play it then?

The funny thing is that I have not played the original Half-Life... I had gotton about 3/4 of the way through it and *boom* the saves were gone (I can'r remeber what exactly happened). So now I have to play through the whole damn thing to see the end. Grrrr.

I wouldn't say that's so bad. I play through it about every 3 months cause it's so much fun.

  • UT2003, the Unreal Warfare engine, is pretty much the best thing on the market at the moment - disregarding the likes of the Doom III engine, which is still in development.

If you've got a decent system - and we're certainly talking about a modern system - then the engine is going to run well for you, but there's a steep performance drop-off with older hardware; it's just the state of play in the engine market at the moment, unfortunately, and I don't see the situation changing anytime soon. People are looking ahead, not back.

Given Valve's track record of having some great successes reworking existing engines, I'm curious to see what the end result will look like - capable team, good technology... and they've shown they can weave good gameplay and an involving storyline together.

How would the story go? Who knows - I'm sure there'll be an faq up to explain all, somewhere, soon enough. There are plenty of options Valve could follow up - the current HL games don't cover all of the Black Mesa events, anyway, and who knows what could follow the main story up?

Well, finished Blue Shift today. Damn was it short. I enjoyed it except for there was more backtracking (had to use a walkthrough to figure out one of the puzzles). Other than that, I enjoyed the graphics update and the handling of the Black Mesa situation... Pretty fun expansion, definately worth the 10$ (especially if you haven't played Opforce). Now off to play the original (kinda half assed way to do it, but )
