SPOILER WARNINGS! BEWARE!!!!!!!!!
Just saw Nemesis tonight. Not sure what I think of it yet. I'll have to digest it I guess.
Just too many questions of "Why?" for it to have really worked for me.

except that one shot where troi was doing that thing and the lighting was on her eyes, just plain awful.
I think it was missing something, but that may also have to do with the 1/2 hour they cut from it.

Hmm... Is data really dead? Is spock really dead?
Did anyone else notice ALL the tributes to other popular Sci Fi? Star Wars, Dune, B4 (Ahem), LOTRings, Outerlimits, etc etc etc.
IMHO: Not as good as Generations, better than Insurection, on par - in a way - with First Contact.
I don't know; all these Trekies have really fallen into a 'dark' theme/feel. For once, and probably never again, I'm with Shok-I have to think about it and see it again - I think...
Was this really the 'last movie' of the generation? Or was that just marketing BS?!?
"a generations final journey begins"
its begins. they could go on for another 20 years you know.

Yeah, too bad they killed Data... I hear Spiner wrote that in himself... I wonder why he did that. And I hope B-4 doesn't turn into another Data... its just not right...

It's been getting really poor reviews from the AP and stuff though. And then there's http://www.trekinside.com/images/Nemesis_ANNOTATED.pdf . I'd never think someone could find so much to pick on in a movie. It looks a lot better on screen than it does on script; but on the script you get to see the delted scenes at least.
I'm glad it did better then LOL 'Drumline' and 'the hot chick' seriously did anyone on this board waste their money on those movies?!?

I am having a hard time discussing the movie because none of my friends cared enough to go see it. That bodes ill for the entire Trek franchise.

I can also think of nothing to justify being able to detect a "positronic signature" from outside the star system. (And while I'm on that subject, hasn't it been stated several times in the series that only Lore was based on positronic technology?)
It's something that's hard to pin down, but the entire production for the most part just totally lacked the feel of Star Trek.

We are here to place President Grenewetzki under arrest!
[b]I have a lot of trouble reconciling this movie with "Star Trek." Though he's always been willing to take risks when the situation warrants it, Picard hasn't been a daredevil since his Academy days. Data at least is back to the Data we remember from the series -- probably due to Brent Spiner's part in creating the story -- and I like that Riker and Troi finally tied the knot, but the rest was just... off.

So basically, it's the standard Star Trek formula, they need to fill a hole, so they re-write the technology.
Worf: Plot hole detected of the port bow.
Riker: Raise shields, RED ALERT!
Picard: Helm full reverse.
Data: Helm not responding captain.
Worf: It's too late, we're being pulled in
Riker: All hands brace for impact...

No, Data also has a positronic brain.
As for detecting the signal, yes, that's true: They shouldn't have been able to detect the signal from outside the system....but keep in mind that Shinzon put the android there in order to lure the Enterprise to him. They probably boosted the signal. It's also conceivable that an the earlier androids were capable of transmitting a "distress signal" if they were in trouble (which B-4 definitely was, being in pieces and all). But of course you would only want to use a signal that someone familiar with the androids could recognize. So you use a positronic distress signal.
I'm not a big fan of Star Trek's methods of solving problems, but every once in a while, it makes sense.
And I have no idea what Enterprise's long range sensors can pick up, how far away it can pick things up, and what things are easier for it to pick up. Also, you have to think that technology has progressed within the time of the elasped stories...

Yes, that was him. Wil Wheaton had a larger role in the film, but his footage was cut. What you see of him at the wedding is all that's left of his appearance. You can read more about that at his website.
