Tehehe...guy doesn't even know what he's putting in the background of his political spoof - despite what it may be called on Kazaa and WinMX, the song in Russian is actually the [i]Hymn To Red October[/i], written by Basil Poledouris (an American film composer) to go with the movie [i]The Hunt For Red October[/i]. If you want the real Stalin-era national anthem, it's the 7th track on the extended bootelg soundtrack. And it does own all other anthems.

I wasn't going to comment on the film itself or your reactions to it (I don't want any right-wing saties I amy come across and post to turn into flamewars), but wait a second - Randy, are you apologizing to Russia because the guy who made this alluded to the US becoming like Russia? Implying that by doing that they're insulting Russia? That's a low blow. If I misunderstood you, I apologize, that's just what I got out of reading that.

Times have changed. I don't think implying that the US is like Russia because it’s changing into a totalitarian system is productive. Russia isn't the Soviet Union. The Soviet Union isn't the people of Russia. The use of that piece of music in the satire is a relic of the Cold War era (though I do understand that it’s a powerful symbol to US citizens, and therefore a good shortcut). It’s a small problem with an otherwise cool piece of work. I know that we have Russian friends at Firstones.com. I wanted them to know where I’m coming from, even though I posted this animation. I think that in general Russians are good people, just like I think that in general United States citizens are good people. I like the Russians I’ve met. My problem is with governments, politicians and elitists, but that’s another story.

I don't see what's incorrect about it, it's Soviet music, not Russian music.

Soviet society was repressive and nasty, Russian society is different. Like apologizing for using "Dixie" in civil war history films.

You're probably right. Just being extra careful. I hear an all male chorus and instantly think Mother Russia rather than Soviet Union. And I'm not sure it's correct to think that. Any Russians here who can clear this up?
