Im off to bed now, so il be turning off the computer. I dont know how long the map of B5 will stay up without anyone there.
Hopefully when its finished, there will be people in there alot so it wont vanish that often.

The 3d stuff: Excluding the outdoors stuff, it would be reasonably easy to do the indoors stuff right, just the places that you see heaps in the show, like the council chambers, and the garden(you could just have a background pic of the interior). What kind of engine would be easiest to do that in?? (absolutly don't know 3d-engines very well )

The engine is great at doing massive outdoor AND indoor areas.
Wouldn't it be great to use Sierra's own engine to creat a B5 game?

Just a questio: It does sound good, but how would we get the money for it... I know its not that much, but how would you do it???

well actually i think, if it would be dedicated team, it wouldn't even be a big problem to get the money... i think 10-20 bucks shouldn't be that much compared to what you get... (with a 5 person team, it would be 20, the more people, the less money)
If i were on the team, i'd pay my part

I understand the idea of each of the team dishing out a little moola guys (Im not quite that dumb, maybe close thought ), but how to get it together, I mean, this place is rather disparate in its actually physical locations, and not everyone interseted in helping out(read: me)has a credit card or such to send via the internet (nor would I use a credit card that way anyway). So how???

Sounds very interesting guys.... so its $100 to license the engine... there should be enough of us here to chip in and make it really cheap. But then again gathering the money maybe a problem as mentioned earlier. I could send a money order, but its a £10 charge from the bank to do one, which is a reall pain. We're going to have to think this one through.

You could go for an open source model aling the lines of mozill.org.
Get a central server for holding the code and then all the devs/modders check code in and out of the "tree".
Even better than making a B5 game using T2 is to make a B5 game using T2 then give it away for free download!!! Make them wankers at Sierra wish they had not crossed the lin.
You could then add new missions as they are developed and make thwem available for download.
If the license is 100 dollars I will likely buy it anyway just to play about with

Looks like we have a lot of takers.
Of course, the ultimate engine would be one that could have gravity going in multiple directions, because then you could do a true inside of B5. Imagine firing rockets at someone who to you is upside down half a mile up.

Yeah I've done that before, but it was only $5 so it wouldnot have been a disaster if it had gone missing.
We need to make a decision as to what to do, i.e. make a list of people who can work on the mod, and the list of people willing to contribute towards the license. All I can really offer is web design skills. I could build a really nice website to front the work we're doing.

The V12/Tribes 2 engine is superb at large scale layouts. Just play T2 for half an hour and you will see this.
Secondly, it uses Newtonian physics so we get proper "B5 gravity".
For me its the best engine choice.
However, I cannot see the cost of licensing T2 being 100 US dollars. No way. If that was the case, everyone would just use it for their games and not bother developing their own engines. Or have I missed something? Hope it is just 100 dollars
Also, are we talking a total conversion or an actual new game? From that stems the question of would we need to get a license from Warner Bros?
