Ray L. Wallace died of heart falure Nov. 26 in Centralia Oregon. He was 84. The truth can finally be told, according to Wallace's family members. He orchestrated the prank that created Bigfoot in 1958. "He did it for a joke, and then was afraid to tell anyone because they'd be so mad at him," said nephew Dale Lee Wallace.
The article then goes on on how he did it.

What this man did was to popularize a phenomenon that already existed. Even Dr. Jane Goodall has strong beliefs that large "undiscovered" primates, such as the Yeti or Sasquatch, do indeed exist.

Unless you count Waneek Horn Miller... who was once on the cover of the canadian version of TIME magazine "Canadian Olympians 2000" issue, but then again, I've known her for a while (You canadians know which one I'm talking about... she's wearing a feather and a water-polo ball, and nothing else)
