A week ago today I recieved my new leg! I lost my lower left leg in the war from the knee down.
The old one was ok but had to be careful with it, running, bikeriding and the like was out, and never knew where it was when walking in the dark!
Then new one is Great, More realistic looking attaches more firmly can run, ride and it even has sensors to let me know how much pressure I am putting on it.
To say I'am impressed is an understatement!

Evidently some guy has some sort of way to use cameras to dump impulses to the brain bypassing damanged or destroyed optic nerves, its still in its infancy but its still quite amazing.

Just wondering...does it have like an LED in it so you can see where it is? or can you acutally "feel" where it is now??

You were in a war? May I ask which war and what happened?

Vietnam? I got to say that I didn't expect you to say that one. Most of the people here are much younger. I think someone here said once been in a Gulf War, but Vietnam.....
Anyway, fortunately those shots hit only your leg instead of some other more critical area of your body and you are still able to walk thanks to modern medical tech. I hope you'll have many more nice moments to come doing everything which requires walking and running.

My ole man is Vietnam vintage, (allthough he got drafted, they never put him on the boat so to speak), and he's like the proverbial Elephant when it comes to mice with cords etc.
as far as the new leg goes, put in a .40 SW that fires out through the heel..
"Oh ok Mister Bank robber, you want me to sit on the ground ? ok sure... just as long as you hold still ok ?... "
In fact, put a bottle opener between the big and second toe... a solitaire maglite in the third toe, a power screwdriver in the fourth one, and maybe an extendable poly tube in the last one connected to an 8 oz resivoir of you favourite scotch/burbon/iced tea.. GOGO GADGET LEG !

If I lost a limb, this is the sort of shinanegans I'd get upto. Until prostheses really are atleast functionally undetectable/transparent ( ie the work bloody close to what was originally there ), I'd be doing my best to make the ****ing thing more useful than the original one in other ways.
The idea of a titanium hand or foot in all honesty isn't that firghtening a concept to me. IT would be handy in Drazi's recent situation, ( see Drazis post ). Then again, I'm whole, so I cant claim to have walked in an amputees shoes, ( pardon the awful pun), and I would sure as hell miss the 'real' one, no doubt, but losing it sure as hell wouldnt slow me down one scintilla more than it absolutely has to.
the US and Australia left Vietnam in 1975... so Argone was prolly there around that time.
I was three, and most of you were un-united sperm and ova. That said, it doesnt make Argone 'better off dead' anymore than me and I'm thirty (look of mock/shock horror), as of last month.
Trust me, you just keep on getting wiser and wiser, ( and to an extent more cynical and cynical ). So don't be dissin' those you should be askin' for advice...
[b]Dont be too hard on the whippersnappers Argy me ole china... atleast you can use a computer.

Hey my pop was in Vietnam back when the US army presence was still refered to as "Military assitance" heck he saved his old MACV patch. And he's currently a Unix systems Admin. Just because Argone is old doesnt mean that he's a caveman
[b]just for a little brush up on your history boys and girls...

Yeah SB but your cantakerous enough to be 50 already
Its just that Argone is the resident old man since Hamblin left
And I don't consider myself old just getting broke in!
I remember recent history first hand and definitly look forward to the future. I'am in great health phyically, mentally is another story!
I also do believe that wisdom can be found everywhere, it is not just a gift of age!

Hee, hee. I didn't know there were any other old crusties around like me. I was in the Coast Guard, active between '68 and '72.
I would have picked you for 40.. tops.
Honest Injun.
anybody?
Hint: I remember things like Blackjack gum, why Doctor pepper cola bottles cabs had holes in them, what I was doing when Kennedy was shot, Mahatma Gandhi, when grass was cut not smoked, and gas was 9 cents a gallon and when you filled up they checked your oil and washed your windshield for free!
Oh and Rock and roll was just getting started!
