Okay, please feel free to get your cracks about Macs over an done with...

*pauses*

If anyone can point me at a reasonable mp3/music site for Macs where I'm not going to have my machine bent over and buggered by a bunch of hackers, please gimme an Url...

I would assume that I'll prolly need a Knapshter clone or something. I'm just wary of ending up in the general vicinity of any mac-haxters.

cheers in anticipation

I'm using Kazaalite these days, but i'm 99% sure there is no version for mac, just PC and Linux with Wine. but there must be something for mac, i remember running Napster on my mac and it ran like a charm.

this prolly is not going to be the solution that youwanted, but, have you thought of running VirtualPC? then you could just use any of the windoze P2P clients.

At least until you can find a good mac one.

Get yourself a P100 and set it up with win95 and kazaalite. Alternatively, just go buy the cds.

What? Having software selection issues with a Mac? I've never heard of that before.

I don't touch file sharing things. I just type the title I'm looking for into Google and hope I get lucky. I'd say I have an 80% sucess rate, but, then, I don't do it all that often.

Kazaa Lite is good, but again I dont think you can get it for mac (it might be in the works, though)...

The other solution is to download Hotline, which is a server application. Its for the pc aswell. A mate of mine has his mac setup as a server and I can login and browse his shared drive. Its a handy program, but you do need to know someone with a server and they have to give you login status etc. So its not instant. I don't do any downloading on my mac at home as I have no broadband, but have the university network at work, so I just use eDonkey and Kazaa for the pc (as I don't have a mac at work). You can get Hotline off Versiontracker/Cnet. Limewire (I think) is another similar program.

Some Linux/Unix programs will run on OS X but not all. I'm not sure of the reasons as I'm not familiar with it, but a friend who has a Mac, PC, Unix, and NextStep setup said that not all programs will necessarily run on OS X despite the Unix core.

He's not talking about OS X, he's talking about linux on a mac, LinuxPPC.

And the linux version of Kazaa lite, well, it set to run on Wine, so it needs windows emulation anyway, you'd be better off with VirtualPC.

OSX is based on Mach. Mach is a very different structure to something like Linux, so most stuff shouldn't run.
