    Hey come on in a naval exercise where the amercians 2 nuclear subs had to attact a targert in canada and our 2 Desiel powered subs (over 20 years old) had to attact a target in the states.

    Canada Won,

    And dont Forget Vimy Ridge! in WW1 when no one else could provial Canada Did.

    So I see...

    The problem is that diesel subs may be quite as hell, but only for a limited range. They have to recharge at some point, which means firing up the diesel engine.

    and subs.... the ancient Aussie Oberon class subs put a Nimitz class on the bottom... ( in simulation ) Thats a 250,000 USD hunk o crap.... putting a floating city down inside a defense screen so tight they count the insects on radar....

    conventional subs rock. Nuclear subs having to run thier coolant pumps all the time means they can almost always be heard...

    recharging is a pain in the butt.... but... Nickel Hydride batteries, capacitor storage... it all gets better... I think you will find Nuke subs wont be around for too much longer ( powered )... perhaps only for specialist work.

    And just to make things a little more interesting... Defense researchers in the US are confident they will be soon be able to see a subs wake/bow profile... even when it is deeply submerged... ocean conditions and depth will of course 'muddy' things.. but mark my words.. the next generation of subs will be arrow thin and designed to make as little disturbance in the water as possible. ( reduced frontal area... spike shaped ).
