I still don't see any proof anywhere. Give me some reliable data to backup your claims and I'll believe you.
But the point in this "debate" and what catched my attention in this thread was ultimately which is a better OS, Unix, or Linux. Even if Unix was more used and developed that still does not prove it to be any better than Linux. You claimed Unix to be better, but have not provided any backup, as some other people also mentioned earlier.
Btw, FYI I really don't even like Linux much, nor Unix either. Not even Windows, although I do like the Windows interface and easiness.

You should really pay attention, I stated that its actually personal preferance, This is the windows/mac argument all over again, I bet you used Beta instead of VHS too!

OK, so what OS is it that you like? Since really you've only left Macintosh. Or BeOS (which is really just Unix with a GUI anyway)

C-64 GEOS.
Just kidding.... Actually, there's no OS I really like as a whole. Perhaps Win 2000 Pro is currently the closest to what I like (from those I've used), but it has it's flaws.

Beta's much better, heh. oh well, guess the better format lost.

Hey dont forget IBM's latest versions of AIX, its a pretty decent unix OS, at least, it doesnt blow up unless something hardware on the RISC box does.. or certain morons create endless datafiles that fill up hard drives grrr.

The very first part of the permissions tells you whether what you are seeing is an ordinary file, a directory, or something else:
brw------- bdevfile
crw-r--r-- cdevfile
prw-r--r-- namedpipe
srw-r--r-- semaphore
mrw-r--r-- sharedmem
lrwxrwxrwx symlink
File Type:
- regular file
d directory
l symbolic link
other characters are usually I/O devices
