Why pain? Down load time of all the packages? Lack of auto configure or default understanding of hardware? Required, difficult to figure out kernel recompile?

The friend who is installing it on a second box - a new one to be sent to the new colocation facility - stated the installation is basically an overnight one and so, annoying as hell. He mentioned that it is nowhere near as simple as the other distributions to install, in addition.
Mandrake is installing as we speak. I have CDs ready for FreeBSD and Gentoo. Stay tuned...
Random ChaosActually Carefully-selected Order in disguise
Hmmm...then of course there was the system it took me 20 hours to get Linux installed on at work. Why you might ask? It was a laptop with a nVidia Quadro 4 500 GL GO processor in it. It took 12 hours to get that vid card working under Linux. Why you might ask? The laptop's AGP apature would crash the system if you used the default X-Windows AGPGARP driver, you had to switch it to nVidias AGP driver - took that long to try every option on the vid card settings until we got it to work.
Why you might ask another 8 hours after that? Thats quite simple. You see, someone brought in the 3 CDs for Redhat. We went to install...and found the first CD missing! We had to download and burn. Then we found the 2nd CD was scratched. Download and burn. Then we found the last CD was the wrong build number to be compatible with the first 2 CDs. Download and burn. Then on top of all of that, due to 2 different internal networks, it happened that all CD Burners that could understand the .iso format were on the WRONG side of the network for good download speed! AHRG!

It is...and a pain in the posterior to install, taking a lot longer than the other flavors, IMO.
