• As a loyal Mac user, even I had to blink in disbeleif. Guess thats why the Mac community are notorious for software piracy.

Well, Apple only has to sell one of those to make up for 1000 people pirating that...LOL

Note: According to a CompUSA employee, the price is jacked up on purpose to prevent employees from pre-ordering and selling it on their own before the store can get it.

Reminds me of an article I read about people using I-Pods and it's Firewire hookup to d/l the new Mac OSX from display comps in stores.

    Mac's will always be pricey.

    A. It's a niche market, exclusive and targeted towards those who often want to be snooty and elitist, ( even if thats not the case for alot of Mac users).

    B. Mac's have always had a pretty high quality and loadout, which means they are simply more expensive to manufacture.

    C. Mac has alot if R and D and other infrastructure at Cupertino that alot of the other computer manufacturers simply dont have...Mac develops alot of its own stuff, rather than just buying stuff to build with... thats costly, but its the only way to truly innovate.

    D. Increasingly you are also paying for a 'digital hub', the Mac can and perhaps will be the core piece of kit to fire everything up, music, video, home automation... 'da werks'... being so central and pivotal means its got to be good.

    E. Solid software - to build something for the Mac platform means you build it right, it has to be good and also built for only a limited number of drivers, harware configs and so forth...

when you buy a Mac you pay for stability, reliability and low downtime, that is simply unheardof in any other machine. That adds up... my machine has crashed without a good reason a handful of times. Add up all the time you've reformatted, reloaded, lost stuff etc... makes a PC look very very expensive if you value your time.

(Is that ok Steve ? My name is spelt 'Craeg' when you write me that cheque. )

PS - they fixed the price

Nice comment Shadow Boxer. Most people go off the wall when it comes to discribing macs. And your right they are more expensive, but I'm willing to pay out the extra cost. Sure my macs crashed on me, and sure I've had to do a reinstall every now and then, but its always been more reliable than my pc at work which needs a reboot 1/2 times a day.

It all depends on what you need to do really. If you want to play games, get a dual Athlon XP. If you want movie and graphical quality, use a mac. If you want to run Word and Acess, get a P4.
