I like the way that rock is about 3/4s the size of the moon. If we didn't notice something that big after hundreds of years of telescopic astronomy, we deserve to be flattened.

At least we can see this one and possiblly stop if it is on a collision course with us. One just missed us by like 250,000(correct me if I'm wrong) miles a few weeks back and didn't see it coming because it came from our blind spot(direction of the sun).

There is also the fact that they only have a budget big enough to monitor a small part of the sky for asteroids. Most are discovered in the course of doing something else or by amateurs.
