Funny thing is, the dual chips + mobo would still be cheaper than that GF4 Ti4600. You're talking a ~$400 card vs. spending ~$300 on the processors and motherboard. If you are going to get a GF4, go for the Ti4200. Its only a fraction slower than the 4600 (benchmarks show a whopping 10fps difference) and is easily half the price.

It may be more expensive, but it will have a far greater impact on gaming performance. Since most of my non-gaming time on computers these days is spent programming, that's all that matters to me. As for A#'s, well I would suggest he check if Blender supports multi-threading.

I suggest you go for another manufacturer.
The best, so far, is the Hercules Gaming Theater XP, but this is expensive. Right below that are the three Philips products, the Acoustic Edge (Six channel goodness), the Seismic Edge (Four channel goodness), and the Rhythmic Edge (Two channel goodness). Sadly, I don't believe they are made anymore (blame poor marketing), but I know they can be found at various locations.
Sanfam: Eh? I haven't had the first problem with my SB Live. Anyways, you forget that the Sound Blaster line of Creative cards are the most widely supported sound cards on the planet. They're also the most common on-board sound chipsets.

That's why I recomended the Santa Cruz. It is as trouble free as a sound card can get, sounds as good as anything out and for 59$ at newegg.com it's hard to beat.
I know a lot of people have never had problems with SB's, but it also seems to be the maker with the most problems and the worst support(like making people pay for new drivers on a new card).
Also trouble-free with all my SB cards, except the one that had moved from PC to PC until some of the connectors broke off....

I'm assuming he's going to get at least a 1.3GHz processor. Noone gets anything less these days unless their budget is too restricted. And if you're going to get dual processors, your budget can't be that restricted.

Yes, but everyone puts a blanket charge of around $5 on every order, and then they will charge sometimes lierally pennies more for stuff until you fill a box or bump into the next highest insurance bracket..like once I forgot a floppy drive and added it in, and the cost went up all of like $.30, compaired to the $5 fee it would have been if I had ordered seperately..
