Good Notebooks
Rhett
(Not even a monkey)
in Zocalo v2.0
I have a question. Are there any good notebooks for under 1000 (or in that range). I'm not getting one, just seeing price range compared to value. Thanks

A better question would involve stating what you want out of the computer, then asking if the price range is a feasable market for such a product.
start with your needs...
if all you want to do is play with Orifice 2000 or surf the net wirelessly or something then a low end machine will do...
if you want to play games and work in graphics apps and 3D... then its a different story.
build your machine around your software so to speak
Trapper Keeper's cost like $4.99
Or if you're not into anything fancy, you can find a classy 1" 3-ring binder for under $3.00...
$1000? That's waaaay too high.

Its basicly to do with the 3d card, the Dell Inspiron notbook I found could only carry a 64mb Geforce 4 go card, which basicly is a good as an MX desktop card.
I probably wont be able to get another computer for a few years, so I don't know if spending more on a moblie, but less powerful notebook is going to be worth it with the rapid increase in gaming requirments.
the NEC MobilePro.

Looks to be a great system!
While not exactly a powerhouse, it certainly does what your friend wants, and has a perfect formfactor for the need. I'm sure this could be found for less elsewhere.
TheEXone, in your situation, I would *not* buy a gaming laptop. It just isn't proper. The problem is, when you get a gaming-capable notebook, often the size and weight skyrocket (note the 10.5 pounds of the Alienware Majestic). The performance dell systems are also heavy and clunky. 6.6 pounds may not sound heavy, but it wears down on you.

I am a gamer, but I needed/wanted a portable, and it was like $50 more to get this vid card as opposed to getting a 16mb ATI rage mobility pile of goo. For any hardcore gaming and stuff I of course use my desktop, but this thing allows for an instant lan party
do some research on small form-factor cases and flex ATX/Micro ATX motherboards. You can fit a good deal of stuff onto them, and if you have the funds, a 1.5 or 1.6 ghz Pentium 4.
