OK. With collage looming over me, I need to do some further research into a major, and what I'm goign to do with my life. I've been told that I'm gifted in both CGI and HTML (Good, right?). now, I need stats. how much can a person fresh from collage with a degree in web design earn? or a degree in computer art?
how does one get a job in these fields?
what kind of stability do these jobs offer?
and other basic questions...
What programs should I learn for 3D?
(I figure grab the Max lite and Maya lite thingys and learn them) do I need to know C++ for a career in 3D?
Just....info, please.
Thanks!

Well, I dunno about having a collage looming over you. I suppose it depends on the images that make up the collage really.

The best I can do is give you US rates...
Sierra (Game Artist) $16 an hour salaried.
Foundation (VFX Artist) $25 an hour Salaried.
Currently (Web Instructor) $18 an hour Salaried.
Getting jobs, experience, luck, excellent portfolio or demo reel, good contacts...
Stability? No such thing... Get used to that idea right now.
3D/CGI apps... Photoshop is a must! For decent employment coverage, know Maya and 3DS Max. As much as I favor Lightwave, the jobs aren't really there...

C++ ? Not unless you want to do 3D Programming, rather than 3D art work.

Definitely get the free Maya and 3DSMax lite things and learn them. The key to getting any job is having the experience to make yourself valuable to the company.

Best way to get a job is with a headhunter
Absolutly no stability in the tech sector.
as for pay, i duno what it is for cgi/html etc, but i get $45/hour doing consulting and computer repair.
Course being that i do Freelance work, there is not a steady amount of work.
And there is one word of warning if you are going to be doing a computer job, and also happen to like computers, If you work on them all day, sometimes it can get to the point where you won't want to use one at all when you are not working. heh
well good luck with your decisions

[b]I'd have to agree on that warning. After spending all day programming, I often don't feel like working on my own projects when I get home.

When i was working for an ISP i was putting in 14-18 hour days most days, and what little free time i did have, i wanted to stay far away from computers. no games, no nothing. it kinda sucked.
