• It's football... who invented the game?

Why don't we just rename American 'football' 'women's rugby' and then see what arguments we get about "you can't call it that!"

God, I just burst out laughing so loud I woke up everyone in my apt building, they started banging on the wall... (it's 02:20)

I'm sorry to say folks that I'll be rooting for the Germans on the 21st. The United States doesn't deserve to win until there is a fan base here. I don't want to see a win that creates a fan base, it's so lame, a bunch of losers jumping on the winners bandwagon.

My pics for the win as things stand now:
England as the good bet
Spain as the sleeper win
Germany as the "them again damnit!" win

If Brazil get's knocked out (I hope), this will truely be the greatest world cup ever no matter what the final is, IMHO.

Is it just me or are teams getting alot more rest in this Cup than in ones I remember (only a few) in the past?

Yaaa!!! Turkey. Now the question is do I stay up and watch Korea/Italy? It would be fun to see Korea stay in it a little longer...

That isn't even a real sport! All that protective gear, and spending most of their time standing around!

OK, so technically it is a sport, but it's not a sport in the same way that rugby, soccer, cricket and so many others are.

im american and i dont like our football. I think our MLS would be more popular if it was like the world cup but not really. instead of having teams from cities have teams from STATES! 50 teams from each state!

its soccer dammit. it is a cooler name.
• KonradKonrad Ranger
Isn't that how the USL (www.uslsoccer.com) works? There can only be one team from each state, though they have a home town. Eg: the Utah Blitz are out of SLC.
• Rogue TraderRogue Trader Somebody stop him...
ya but who ever heard of the USL in the US? we barely hear about MLS. ya know?
• Italy going out was madness! I've never seen so many angry Italians - myself and my mate Dave nearly got our heads taken off in the bar; thank the powers that be for the typical English resilience to foreign languages, especially when you've had a few pints - still, South Korea played their hearts out and easily deserved to win it - they had the better players on the day, and certainly the better fans

Still, just who's going to win it? The England-Brazil game on Friday is being billed as the "final" - whoever wins that will probably win the whole tournament

Denmark and England were my favorite teams in the tournament because I didn't expect USA to get this far...

But now, I'm hoping to see England, USA, and South Korea advance. I wouldn't care so much about the fourth team... however, since I CAN'T STAND Senegal, because they are just a bunch of bullies with no skill, I'm hoping Turkey will beat them on the 22nd.

Ich Liebe Deutschland!

I'll sit here in the U.S. and wave my German flag for them since to many Germans are still unwilling to show much national pride.

Maybe I'll go watch the match at a club this morning... ...Na, bad idea, I'll get murdered for cheering for the "wrong team."
• KonradKonrad Ranger
ENGLAND!!! GOOOOOAAAAAALLLLLLLLL!!! Michael Owen!!!!!!!!!!!

(Brazil is starting to play ugly early, they had better not injure a Brit or I'll be pissed, I'm amazed considering possession time how this is going. Come on isn't anyone watching!

Nuts, Brazil just scored... and in extra minutes right before the half?!? Whistles/BOOOO!!!

Oh Crap (can I say that here) they got another goal...

US played a really strong game though. Really looked liked they dominated, but they just couldn't turn it into points.

Oh well thats England out now... the game just slipped away from them and they never took advantage of the extra man when Ronaldinhio was sent off. To be honest I think the ref was very very over the top in sending him off, a yellow card yes. But still looking at the replay he was going for the ball and Mills rushed in, pretty 50-50 to me. Anyway that 2nd goal really killed England off and they failed to take the game to the Brazilians.

A good game, the Americans were very aggresive, but the Germans did a fantastic job of just absorbing it and let them run themselves down. (I loved the "desperation energy" in the second half, then having everyone colaps after.)

I personaly thought the Germans didn't play poorly. They had two other very good scoring opportunites, and well, thank god for Oliver Kahn. I think the Germans played the game the way they intended to. Germans just set up their usual defense mode after getting the lead. They would have played differently if the score would have been worse for them. German style! Not that beautiful, but still effective enough to qualify!

I still want to cry about England (so much for my prediction) Germany or if not them Spain all the way!!!

There is a reason we wear pads, to many people were dying playing our version of rugby. Teddy Roosevelt almost made playing US rules rugby (football) illegal because to many people where dying playing it.

Plus the pads give you more surface area to hit other players with. I've played with and without pads and you can deffinately hit alot harder with the pads on. And its fun hitting Quarterbacks in the ribs with your helmet.
