Hurray for Ireland!

Falcon1Falcon1 Elite Ranger
For those of you thats following the World Cup in Japan and South Korea might have noticed that Ireland was playing the mighty Germany yesterday. The Germans took the lead after 19 mins but the Irish equalised in the last minute of extra time. It was the most exciting moment of my life.

And I have to say, for all their class and big name players, the Germans were crap and deserved to loose.

God I wish I was back home to celebrate this, the country's gone mad!

Yeah I watched that! Great performance by the US. Maybe now the rest of the country will wake up and take notice of the sport and the fact that they have a national soccer team.

    Mighty Germans??
Um... I am a German, but I don't feel very mighty today (5 hrs sleep - nothing to do with the World Cup ). As for the German team... they were "mighty" last time around 1990. Big names? Well, Mr Bierhoff is more well-known for washing his hair than for playing soccer these days.
The only one with a really good game against Ireland was keeper (coincidence? ) Oliver Kahn.

Ireland "won" the draw, and they deserved it.

BTW: Right now it's half-time Portugal vs. Poland, and Portugal seems to make the US group a bit more interesting again . (Come on: It would be far enough to see Argentina and France stumble. )

Yes that is true that the current German team is not a patch on what they used to be like. Still though that Polish born guy Klose is dangerous (and will be worth alot of dosh after this wcup is finished) and to me is much better than Balack. Janker seems to be a waste of space as a striker though he does cause problems in the air. Yes Kahn had a great game, git! :P

I doubt Argentina will stumble, though they were worryingly unconviencing in the box against England. I think France will fall from grace, unless Zidane unleases the most amazing performance of his life.

Its been a good world cup so far though! And good for Japan too, they had a great match yesterday!

  • Argentina are going to have to work very hard to get out of their group - if England had beaten Sweden, like they should have, then there'd be even more pressure on...

As is, Argentina still have two very strong teams in the top two slots, who need precious little from their last games in order to qualify at the expense of the South Americans.
  • Ouch. France and Argentina gone.

The two top teams (according to most so-called experts, hah! ) leave the world cup without having shown their class.

Tomorrow, Italy and Croatia could even kick out Mexico if they won both their matches. Mexico would then have to leave with 6 points(!)... truly an interesting championship so far.

England really didn't do too much in the match against Nigeria, so Sweden wins the top rank in this so-called killer group. Wow - I didn't even think they would survive it.

Yeah two big shocks really... I wonder could Italy be next??? This is the first World Cup for a long time thats suddenly opened up. Anyone can do it now, anyone that is with the metal and determination to go forward. A bit of luck helps too.

Watched the England game this morning, bit dull really.

And so onto the important teams... Ireland and Germany!!!

Fantastic result against Saudi Arabia yesterday!!! 3-0!!! Couldn't have been better! I have to say that we were shakey for the last 20 minutes of the first half. The first goal didn't settle us at all. But the changes at half time did the trick.

Congrats to Germany on their win against Cameroon... they really have under achieved, pressure of being african champions was too much. I think Klose will be a safe bet for the Golden Boot if he keeps scoring the way he has.

  • I'm not rating Germany this tournament - they had an easy group, and haven't really shown anything special - at least England had a challenging group, and even then coasted it.

Just look at the list of players that Sven has rested... hopefully now he'll swing them into action

Denmark has had a very good run too, and I just cannot stand Senegal. No skill whatsoever, just a bunch of bullies. Hope Sweden takes them out in the first game of round of 16! Eeeeevil, eeeeeeeeeeeeeeevil!

Oh boy, what a sad day yesterday... bloddy Spainish robbed us of a deserved place in the quarter finals. We had them beaten and shouldn't have missed that penalty... and that penalty shoot out after extra time was agonising.

Oh well, they played fantastic against all the odds and critics...

Irish eyes may not be smiling this morning, but they're still proud!

    ... as they should be!
After the first round, Spain is not a surprising winner of this match. But, Ireland played a good second half (once again) and extra time. Why just couldn't they score??
The first penalty (that they missed) seemed like a foreshadowing of what was to come.

Mexico, with Spain and Brasil the best in round one (or so I thought), lost against the US boys (Huh??). I wonder what will happen with Brasil today.

...and Italy is not safe against South Korea.
Oh, and BTW: Senegal is in the quarter finals .

Yeah full credit to the US, they've played brilliantly. I doubt England can hold off Brazil though...
