Babylon 5: Transitions of Darkness
CENTAURI PRIME
As he looked over at the celebrating crowds from his balcony, the newly appointed regent, Varini, let out a sigh of relief. He could not remember a time when he had felt so at ease in the recent months while Emperor Cartagia had been alive. Back then he had been so nervous about incurring his majesty’s wrath, he had not been able to sleep well.
After he had heard the news of Cartagia’s passing on the Narn home world, Varini had secretly hid his relief, for to openly decry that the emperor had been mad from the start was considered to be treasonous and could be punished by only the most gruesome kind of death that one could imagine. But with the First Ones gone and the Shadow War over, things were beginning to return back to normal. Or as normal as one could hope…
BABYLON 5
Tom Langley was on his way to the Zocalo when she came up to him. “So, what’s the scoop? Are they willing to give us support?”
“No. I tried talking to the Captain but he said that they won’t be able to provide any ships at the moment due to the damage they’ve sustained. Figures though,” Elisa Rice said, not to happy with the way things went. “I keep telling Jack that they’re not going to be of any help. At least not now.”
“If ever,” Langley muttered. “Look, you keep trying to talk some sense into these people while I set up a meeting with Jack, okay?”
Elisa nodded in acknowledgement. “Yeah, sure. I’ll try to get them to spare at least some of their weapons and medical supplies.” She gave him a weak smile and then turned to leave when he grabbed her by the arm ever so gently.
“Hey,” Langley said with a forced lop-sided smile, “even if we don’t get any help from Sheridan, we still have Major Ryan supporting us.”
“Yeah and with a damaged ship from their last skirmish with the Pericles. Still I hope that they’ve had better luck with recruits then we have.”
“There’s always hope,” Langley tried reassure her, not really buying it himself. It had been nearly nine months now and still the Resistance hadn’t won any victories. Every day it seemed like Clarke’s forces were closing in, inch by inch. Langley dreaded the day when he might see his beloved Mars fall before Earth Force troops. He squeezed the pendant in his hand, praying that it would not happen.
EARTH DOME
“And we can only conclude that with the recent attacks against supply ships going to Babylon 5, the renegades must be in some serious trouble,” Intel Officer, Major Cemlre
said while pointing out where the attacks were conducted on the map of Epsilon Grid.
“Aside from some brief battles with raiders, we haven’t really encountered much resistance in the past several months. That must mean that our strategy of starving them from supplies is working.”
“I see Major, but with all due respect, I don’t think Sheridan’s forces are any where near as weak as we would like them to be. He still has the Minbari on his side and with the recent release of the Narn home world by the Centauri, we’re bound to run into some problems. And that’s at the least of our worries. Recon patrol teams from the Olympus and the Agamemnon report a massive gathering of ships from almost every major race in the League,” General Gage responded, and then as an afterthought added,
“Mr. President, I don’t know what we’re going to do unless we somehow get his allies to leave him.”
President Morgan Clarke nodded in understanding and was frankly in a state of trying to keep his temper. Up until this point, everything has been going accordingly. Then a few days ago, everything started to fall apart. Clarke’s ally, Morden was executed on Centauri Prime by the Prime Minister and his associates had just vanished without a trace. And now upon hearing a massive space fleet parked outside Babylon 5, his day had just gotten considerably worse.
“There may be a way to discredit Sheridan in front of the other aliens and spark a renewed sense of support among our own people, Mr. President,” Psi-Corps. Representative Todd Philbin started out.
“Interesting,” Clarke said. “What exactly do you have in mind?”
ELSEWHERE
A void of emptiness began to permeate the areas that had once been dwelt by the First Ones. In particular, a race out on the Rim was struggling to understand what was going on around them. Their masters just left their world without so much as an explanation other then it was time for them to move on. Their servants did not understand and before they could inquire further, the Darkness left them to become the new masters of the galaxy. But before they left they gave their servants the names of John Sheridan, Delenn, Londo Mollari, and Centauri Prime.
Then the Darkness departed leaving their servants to mourn and dwell upon the last things their masters had said.
