As you understand, this put a HUGE strain on the computer and GFX card. The solution was that we reduced the number of textures, and merged all materials which was using the same texture. Now we have models with 1-3 textures and 1-4 materials (double-sided, glowing etc). And Oleg is constantly making improvements to the engine, whenever he can squeeze more fps from it. One other possible problem for non-Geforce and S3 users is the textures. Since we can only use 1-3(in almost all cases 1) textures they have to be larger. And uncompressed textures take a lot of memory. For example a 2048x1024 textures used 6 MB of your GFX memory. By converting the textures to a 256 color palette we cut that number into three, using only 2 MB. And since we now have .jpg and .png support the size on disc won't be an issue (a few MB at best).

    You also wonder why we aren't releasing a tech-demo? We are ALL working to do just that:

    Me: Writing briefing scripts, rendering cut-scenes, modelling ships and making gfx
    Andy: Programming collisions and subsystems
    Alex: Writing on the MissED editor (a GUI mission editor) and modelling...
    BlackSheep: Coordinating voices and recording sounds
    Sergei: Making all the 2D

    And screens will of course arrive when we have something we want to show you.

    What's next?


    I'd first like to thank the numerous people that have visited this site and especially those that have actually downloaded and tried the game.

    I currently have no plans to expand this game, but would gladly assist anyone that would want to expand and/or redesign the game. Asteroids gets boring pretty quick, and this project has served its purpose, which was to design a fully functional game and to provide some game code to anyone that might be interested. The executable and the source code will remain available to anyone interested. I'll be spending the next several months developing several DirectX 8 graphics demos, many of which are expected to be provided with source code. Exactly where such code will be located hasn't been determined.

    Eventually I will complete the demos and begin work on the next B5 game project, which has been hinted at on the about page. Prior to this I may create a couple of AI demos detailing aspects that will be included in the game. I'm guessing that I will want to incorporate dynamic missions and attack wings that function as a team. At the moment I'm looking at a "subspace" type of game, but with missions and single player ability, set in the B5 universe and utilizing better resolutions and some 3D effects

    Long time no updates! I was a little sidetracked
    by Bridge Commander, but I've lost interest
    in it so I am going to return to modding KA [img]http://216.15.145.59/mainforums/smile.gif[/img]
    I have unpdated my Omega destroyer, so now
    I have to kitbash it into the Nova and Omega-X
    class ships. The Hyperion is done, and my
    EA fighter pack is almost done as well. I will
    be releasing something soon, as it has been
    almost 2 months since my last release, and
    the ships I released weren't even B5!

  • Du bist wohl nicht ganz auf dem Laufenden , BlackSheep.
    Avenger hat bereits die Beta von dem FRED2-Event fertig welches ich angefordert habe. Das geht anscheinend schneller als ich gedacht habe. Whites Korrektur des Ambient lightnings ist auch im Gange.

    TBP ist ein FreeSpace2 Mod zu Babylon5. [url="http://freespace.volitionwatch.com/babylon"]http://freespace.volitionwatch.com/babylon[/url]
    Das Release 1 besteht aus 5 oder 6 (weiß ich NIE) Missionen im Eart-Minbari Krieg. Release 2 müßt auch demnächst kommen.Zusätzlich gibt´s neue Missionen, neue Schiffe, die Models wurden zum Teil vom Homeworld Mod übernommen und sehen entsprechen kantig aus. Und ne deutsche Version haben wir auch grad in der Mache
    Der Server scheint grad down zu sein.
