Isn't this supposed to be the original enterprise before Capt Pike takes it over and then Kirk, how do they get away with makeing the ship look like current ships? this is a bad idea IMHO
------------------
..And so it Begins
Found. Copying. Pasting.
Ok, Here we go!
:-)
I feel that you should give the chance. When you actually look at the
ship, some things stand out that give it a pre-tos feel. most obviously,
the classic style nacelles. They are simply that. :-) As I look at the
ship, it also seems to have many more functional features, such as service
ports, connections, external relays or something, and the classic modular
bridge as seen on the movie era and before. but also, the classic style
Impulse engine makes it bit a bit better. The fact that there really aren't
any of those huge windows like on the future craft is also great. Instead,
there are multiple portholes. So far, the ship appears to be very small. I
can also see two shuttle-pads, which are a fine idea by me.
While I understand that you should stand by your opinion, you must
remember that low production values in the past really prevented much from
getting done properly. Also, the real lack of technology relating to
television broadcasts made it even worse. Understanding this is the key to
liking this ship. You simply have to understand that things are not easily
done. GR stated once that he actually wanted the klingons to look more
alien (the ridges) but makeup was far above the limited budget of the
series. Other attempts to cut corners while trying to bring a good show was
the whole thing with the U.S.S. Constellation issue (NCC-1017). All they
tried to do was save money, and they did so very well. This also easily
explains the fact that there were really no more ships that the
constitution.
As for the possible inconsistencies with the interior: As you probably
imagined, TPTB tried to get a good balance of functionality and modern style
into it. I think they have done so very well, from what has been seen.
They have mechanical switches, but also have incorporated a primitive
computer display system that looks more modern than something we use, but
less than LCARS. It really isn't easy to factor TOS into this because of
the HUGE difference between the filming times. TOS, again, was heavily
limited by its small budget and low technology. Now, I am sure that if the
U.S.S. Enterprise (NCC-1701) Was to be filmed today, for the first time,
with no predecessor, it would look like something much more advanced than
the one you and I see in syndication. Now, back onto the Interior Details
:-)
If you saw the TNG Episode Relics, where the enterprise discovers the
Dyson's sphere, there is one scene where Scotty walks onto the bridge of the
classic enterprise. If you noticed what the crew did, then you would feel
slightly more comfortable with the changeover. Instead of the silly little
plastic painted panels with light bulbs behind them, they used similar
screen as seen on the bridge of the enterprise, producing moving text,
flashing buttons, and working schematics. While I do not feel like capping
it right now, I can tell you that they made the ship fit much more into the
way of things.
For exterior design, again, in the DS9 Episode Trials and Tribulations,
the enterprise was seen with a slight Aztec pattern on the hull, along with
specific, solid hull plates and other pieces not seen in such detail before.
It really helped in the slight modernizing of the ship. It's all just how
it happens.
Again, the huge issue is the simple fact that there is a large time
difference (real time, not just series time) between the production of these
two ships, as well as a huge difference between the production values. The
classic enterprise was designed to fit the budget, and so was this. The
whole idea of design plagiarism aside, I think Eaves did a good job with
this ship, and that it will fit the role well.
Looks more TNG than TOS
If you ask me, it's some screwy fan pic, it's a flippin Akira class for christ's sake, with TOS engines.

Actually I think this series has alot of potential as long as they don't allow the Voyager sydrome to creep in (no story arcs, huge contridictions, etc). I've always enjoyed back stories and this seems like a good one.

I mean, I've done Miranda's that look like that with that software.
It does look more primative, lacking the "graceful exterior aesthetics" of the "newer" ships. Lots of Pipes, missing panels, rough funtional features....kind of like the ISS (international Space Station), in a way.
I'm going to reserve judgement. Scott Bakula is a good actor, and I think I want to see where it is going rather than pre-judging it.

In my opinion it doesn't have anywhere enough of that sort of detail. There arn't really that many external pipes and stuff like that.
I do like the round portholes though.

He leaps in, and has to complete the five year mission, being guided by Al, an invisible hologram only he can see, which would confuse the rest of the crew, as no one would know who he would be talking to.

Bakula: "But I'm in the middle of a battle here! Doesn't Ziggy know where to find the Klingon commander's father?"
Stockwell: "Uh, Sam...look in the mirror..."
Bakula: "Oh, boy..."
