Lightwave or Blender?? I need to know

can somebody pls tell me whats best between the lightwave and blender??? (if thats the right names)

and can u tell me how long it would take me to learn all this texturin stuff from scratch....i.e is it harder than learning to do HTML..which i can do.

anyways...from reading the other posts i have seen that there is some competition between the two camps of lightwave users and blender users!!!

so knock urselfs out while tryin to convince me of which to use!!!

p.s what are the commands for doin the wierd smily faces...

  • Well, if you have 2,500$ US in spare cash, Lightwave, it's a bit easyer, and (So they say) makes better renders. I don't know about that though.

Blender on the other hand is free, a mojor plus, and can be downloaded from www.blender.nl
I have tutorials on my site, www.b5blender.com
and there are others at www.blendermania.com

As for the smilies? Click "Smilies Legend" at the left of the screen when typing a new message.

    hope this helps!

  • SanfamSanfam I like clocks.
There are also Many OTHER options besides blender and Lightwave. One of them is called "Inspire 3d".
Inspire 3d is made by Newtek, the company who develops lightwave. It is almost exactly like lightwave, but missing key features that make people buy lightwave. it is absolutely fine for the average computer user, and for the most part, the professional would be the only one to really notice a major difference. A really nice thing, though, is that you can pretty much make up for these problems either by free or inexpensive plugins

There are also other options, like getting older versions of Lightwave. I'm pretty sure a used lightwave 5.6 copy could be acquired for anywhere above $1,000...
There are other options like 3dsmax, Truespace, etc. but I personally find lightwave and inspire 3d to be above these all (Yes, I have tried truespace, and toyed with 3dsmax)
There's also bryce, but that is really only for terrain-type things...
anyways, I'd suggest you stick with lightwave, inspire 3d, or one of the other stated programs, but if you must, go with blender. it has it's plus (free), but that's about it.

  • I would go for lightwave 6 or milkshape 3d.
The reson for Lightwave is very good.
Milkshape 3d is very easy, Has UV Teaxting stuff in it and it cost like 20$ U.S and its a Low Polygon modeler too. If you have the money go for lightwave
