Hands down, the best CGI I've EVER seen...

During a debate over the state of CGI today (one person was asking if we'd seen the limit of CGI -- how short sited is that?) over at [url="http://www.dvdfile.com,"]www.dvdfile.com,[/url] I posted these pictures from the upcoming Final Fantasy film. This is without a doubt, the best computer generated material I've ever seen. And it'll only get better in the coming years. Here's a sample:

    Yea, i have to agree. I saw those images back a while on the finalfantasy site... They had the closeup-shot of the womans eye as startup. It took me a while to figure out this was a rendered image - all those little wrinkles and stuff, just looked like a photo. it was one of those moments i decided i´m not worthy for the 3d-world... I wonder if any of those commercial programs they used show up in the western world (afaik they use some japanese software, which name i cant remember right now, which seems to be pretty good for character- and organic rendering)

    btw, did you saw the animations? they post a about 5 sec snippet every week on the final fantasy site, and every month a clip a bit longer. seeing those images in motion is even more fascinating...

    FinalFantasy - The Movie for those interested... (they also got a nice voice-cast for the movie, imo)

    I saw that a while ago, too, but I was able to figure out it was a render, mainly due to the way the light is refracted off of the surface of the "skin"
    it doesn't seem real to me...
    rather fake.
    It's just something...
    No matter how good these are, they still have strong imperfections. I am sure, though, that these will be solved within the next two years at a MAXIMUM, probably sooner.

    The CGI on the Final Fantasy movie is amazing. When I downloaded the trailer for it I could swear parts of it were live-action. Especially one scene where all you see is a person's eye. The eye looks absolutely real.
