Ouch Time...

I was trying to see how much I could put in a scene before my computer melted down. This one has:

Objects 263
Polys 583065
Points 711371
Lights 186

I have 256mb of memory and I was paging the HD, it only took 35 minutes to render though. Warlock by Chris Sapiano, Epsilon Nebula by Jeff Richards. Tempest Cruiser, Ark Royal Carrier, Cotton Tender and Cargo Ship by me.

I love the tender ANy chance of you releasing it to the public?
same for the excelent transport, which, IMHO, you should try to design modular pods for. we've seen that cockpit hauling different cargo packages around. some look to be liquid tanks, others are cylindrical links of pods. Others are those links of pairs of pods that you see commonly.

I released that some time ago. You can get it at my site (check my sig). I was going to update the cargo ship, but I haven't got around to it yet.

Update time. Here's the new stats (let's see you blender heads do this ):

Objects 383
Polys 801828
Points 947202
Lights 292
Textures 77 (41.1mb)

I was running out of HD space for paging so I think this is all that I can put in one scene. Additional credits: Monsoon by Lars Joreteg converted by Fabio Passaro, Omega Destroyer by Matthew Tarling.

Wow
THat kicks ass!!!
I have about 8 gigs free on my main drive now, so maybe I'll put some time into that
if you want, you can send me the scene file to try to render
• SanfamSanfam I like clocks.
hey, is that a monsoon class ship I see in front of the warlock? (not the EAS Monsoon)
• excaliburexcalibur Elite Ranger
Yup, the same. I had to change the name of the Tempest class ship because I forgot about the Monsoon. There's four of them in the scene.

FYI, it's spelled Cotten, not Cotton (do a DejaNews search for George Johnsen's post, to see), and that isn't the Cotten tender - it's a generic ship from Chameleon Eclectic's Earthforce or Babylon 5 sourcebook created by John Gronquist, who confirmed that fact quite some time ago on the Babylon Project RPG email list.
• SanfamSanfam I like clocks.
but "cotton" sounds so much more cute than "COtten"
har har
ok, whatever...
I still think it's a nifty ship
the tempest class also kicks ass
it's the new age hyperion (or roosevelt, or alpha, or...)

Most people call it Cotton, right or wrong. I've argued this many times before and I don't want to do it again(besides, my spell checker always auto-corrects Cotten ). I've heard of it being called the generic ship before, but unless someone can come up with a picture of the real Cotton, I'll just use this one.

I have some more work to do on the Tempest, manly textures and a few little things. It should be done soon.

Hey Sanfam, did you get the e-mail?

What if most people called your Shirley?

Seriously, though...for proof that the correct spelling is Cotten, go to these JMS and George Johnsen (he was another B5 producer) quotes on Lurker's Guide:
http://www.midwinter.com/lurk/guide/111.html http://www.midwinter.com/lurk/find/Usenet/jms97-04-usenet/15.html

Well, you probably should let people know it isn't the Cotten, especially since the ship after which you modelled your design was created by John Gronquist, who probably deserves some credit for the design.

Oooh...ahhh Is that the gunboat mesh you posted a while back?
• excaliburexcalibur Elite Ranger
I didn't know who it was designed by. Someone just posted a picture of it a while ago at the B5MG and said it was the Cotton Class Tender. By the time I found out, I had already released it.

The Tempest Class Heavy Cruiser (designed by Lars Joreteg) is the ship closest to the camera and the gunboat (which is an escort carrier) in just in front of it.

I got the email
i'll see about taking it up, but I'd neeed that tempest mesh!
which omega mesh did you use?
(i'm gonna be hopefully upgrading my ram soon, too)
• Give me all those models, and a month of free time to texture the DXFs, and a day for the lighting, and I could duplicate it.

OK, more then a month!
