The Big Contest Announcement: Take Two!
Contest announcement
May 17 2001
Today shall be a bad day no more! The official Firstones.com contest signup is now opened! As I am rather tired, I am simply going to rehash the old announcement. Things have been toned down a bit, due to issues that have cropped up. Mainly, the puzzle is simply gone now(due to lack of puzzling ideas), and the scavenger hunt might be taken out. So here we go! First, the old stuff that you might have to read back to find about:
//really old stuff
As some of you have noticed, two new forums (Green team & Purple team) were created, but none of you knew what they were for. The same goes for the Contestor. Anyone get it yet? Green Team? Purple Team? CONTESTor? I know some of you did, but the first to truly piece it together was lord refa (Sn_Kelly or Lord_Refa on #Firstones of EFnet!!! Join!). More on this later.
Anyways, The big thing is now. For about two or three weeks (update: months ), there has been an idea to make the waiting for the game more enjoyable, but what would this be, exactly? Well, Arik, Myself, and Draziguy formulated a contest. This contest should be one of the most entertaining events in firstones history , if everything works out.
Below is a general description of how the contest works.
Round One - Questioning and counter questioning.
Part 1 - Questions/Counter-Questions about Location
Part 2 - Questions/Counter-Questions about Ship
Part 3 - Questions/Counter-Questions about Character
Part 4 - Questions/Counter-Questions about Selected topic
in this Round, each team will decide on a location, ship, character, and a choice topic. Then, the opposing team will Ask questions about this. The first team to get the correct location, Ship, character, or choice topic wins that Part. The team that wins the most phases/rounds wins the round. We are not decided on a tie breaker, but it will probably be another choice topic.
Round Two - Scavenger hunt (probably not.)
Vorlon "nodes" will be hidden within the pages of firstones.com and other fansites. These nodes are small images which shall be reported to either Arik or myself to be recorded. the Team with the most nodes when all are found wins the Round. When a node is found, it's representative image will be changed to that of the team which has discovered it. NOTE: No nodes are on the pages yet. Zippo. SO you won't find anything In addition to this, I will put a measure of protection against cheating (undisclosed).
Round Two/Three - Creative Writing and Graphical interpretation
To begin with, each team will be given two data files. These data files could be images, sound, video, text, or anything else. From this, each team will develop the story and associated graphical interpretations on their own. Each team's story will be judged by the Board of Advisors (The term I've coined for the Contest Organizers and Staff ). Each story will be rated in three areas (Quality, Originality, Plot/Something more specific), which will be combined into one Overall score. The same goes for the Visual aspect. The overall higher score will win the round. On another note, a good example of the graphical interpretation is a rendered image of the described scene, or maybe something more comic-book style, with Text boxes and all. It doesn't have to be rendering, either. It can be ANYTHING visual. It can be ASCII art. It can be a Hand Drawn series of images. It can be a movie. Do whatever you want, as long as it remains visual. Another example is as follows: a cartoon drawn by hand, and scanned into the computer illustrating the scene. It just has to be visual.
I'm sure you're all going "Hey, Sanfam, this is coolies and stuff, but what do *I* get for participating in this mammoth attempt to please everyone?"
Well, To address that concern, there WILL be real prizes here. Prizes will be given out at random selection.
Grand prize: A Signed B5:ITF poster. I believe the Devs have some say as to whether this is still available to us...
Could someone post the picture of it? I don't remember where I saw it (and my picture is gone...corrupted). I believe it was signed by all devs at a meeting, but I don't remember...
Anyways...the next prizes are Babylon 5 Episodic Soundtrack CDs! Yes, some of your favorite music. No one will be dissappointed with them. Next, there are some fridge magnets, I believe (right Draz?) and possibly a Firstones.com Multimedia CD (from what I have seen, an excelent prize.
Aside from the Grand prize, I do not know the exact number available, and cannot asses the odds of winning, so...well...Enjoy the contest!
Lastly, some of you might be thinking "Well, Sanfam, you sure kick ass for organizing this whole contest, but how do I sign up?"
Well, to sign up, you would post on a "Contest Sign-in" thread. From there, the Board of Advisors would try their darndest to balance the teams to make the teams equal and Fair.
Please, comment on this here announcement. Also, if you have an idea for the puzzle, post it! I'd like to hear about it
//New Stuff
Well, the biggest new thing is the stated Episodic CDs. I might give choices, but I'm hoping to give out a possible twelve CDs. I'll see what I can dig up around here
Anyways, The Green/Purple forums will be team-access only forums. You guys can do your brainstorming there, and I will make sure that no non-team members can sneak in I hope you all truly enjoy the contest. It should be a blast
