Let the SKYFALL (007)

The title song of the new Bond movie has just been released and it sounds nice enough without breaking new ground. It's a good formula after all. :) I'm not familiar with Adele's work, so I was pleasantly surprised, she has a good singing voice.

I hope it will be as good at the first one with Craig. ;)

• Oooo Adele is singing the theme song? Good choice.

I can't wait. Only a month away!

Adele is singing the theme? Did Bond break up with her?

I think she was an excellent choice and the song fits the Bond style nicely. Some of the songs for other recent movies haven't been that great.

Good to see they are doing something special for Skyfall, it is the 50th anniversary afterall.

I am looking forward to the movie. Always like the bond films :)
• The second best Bond song was actually pretty recent....You Know My Name by Chris Cornell, it was the theme to Casino Royale. Loved that song. Die Another Day was pretty lousy, and the one for Quantum of Solace was just weird.

But really, if you need to know the best Bond song, just watch Sir McCartney do Live and Let Die live. Twice. Solidifies opinions there.

I thought Adele was a really good choice, and I really like the song!

I thought Chris Cornell's one was good, better than the general reception it seemed to get anyway! As for the best one ever, I'd say Shirley Bassey's Goldfinger or Diamonds are aforever have to be my personal favourites
• GooooldFIIINGA!

That's a classic song too! Probably my #3 for sure.

Well, I just got back from the cineplex where I went to see the movie with my girlfriend. :) She insisted, so I was happy to oblige. :D

Some say it's the best with Craig yet. I liked Casino Royale quite a lot and it would have been a tough act to beat IMHO. I'm not sure it does beat CR even though it is up there with the best. My problem with this Bond is the story, everything else is standard fare we have come to expect and enjoy. Without giving anything away, there are certain lines you should never cross and they did this time, twice in fact. [sp]You don't have an inside job as the main story as it hurts the entire premise, and you don't kill off one of the main characters. Also the reason for all this movie is just based on revenge and not a megalomaniac trying to take over the world. I suppose they felt this plot device has run its course.[/sp]

If there is one complaint that I would like to field, it's the Bond girls, while charming as always, got a lot less screen time in this release, which is a shame, they were top notch. While Judy Dench is a strong presence and a shoe-in in the role of M, she's not the reason why we enjoy Bond girls, and she does get a lot of screen time and this for an obvious reason.

So I still highly recommend this Bond film, there is nothing quite like it out there. You may notice that a few scenes look like they were shot in the same part of Istanbul where "Taken 2" was filmed. The movie runs almost two and a half hours long and you hardly ever feel like they could have cut it shorter, well maybe towards the end, but it's hardly worth mentioning. ;) EDIT: Actually, I would have preferred they had given Javier Bardem more screen time to show a bit more his motivations behind his actions, in the form of flashbacks maybe.

Time well spent!
• Lord RefaLord Refa Creepy, but in a good way
I kinda liked the opening titles the most of any Bond so far. Even tho I was not sure about the song on its own.

Mixed with the titles its great.

Spoilers beware! Just saying. :)
• Best Bond film since GoldenEye. Its better than Casino Royale for the sole reason that its more Bond like. Although, without spoiling too much, a fair assessment is that this is The Dark Knight for Bond. The similarities are quite apparent.
• Entil'ZhaEntil'Zha I see famous people
I ALMOST went to see it today, But on a Saturday between Thanksgiving and Xmas the cinema would have been so overcrowded with teenage douchebags that I decided to wait.

(no offence if you happen to be a teenage douchebag)

You do realise that Casino Royale did all those things too, right?
• StingrayStingray Elite Ranger
Not exactly. By that logic you could say every Bond film ever made is the same.

If there is a way to misinterpret what you've said or wrote, Worf will find it. I hereby give you Worf's Law. :D

I saw it the other day, I thought it was quite good. Although the villain was a little surprising from time to time. Was he gay?
• ShadowDancerShadowDancer When I say, "Why aye, gadgie," in my heart I say, "Och aye, laddie." London, UK
Possibly. To be honest I didn't rate it as being all that good. I'm mean, it wasn't bad, and it was better than some recent ones. I just don't think it was as good as the hype made it out to be. There were some good references to past movies too, but don't get me started on the hacking business, tracking underground or the totally silent server farm! Nitpicks I know, but still ;)
• StingrayStingray Elite Ranger
I've been thinking a bit more about Skyfall. In my opinion the villain wasn't bad enough. In a way he was held back by all the sets, the special effects and gadgetry. It's almost like George Lucas made a Bond film. Let's put more sugar into that candy. More is better, right? The drawn out battle in Scotland was dragging along as well. At least they didn't make a trilogy with elves out of it.

Yet ;)
• StingrayStingray Elite Ranger
The next Bond will be shot in New Zealand!!! :D
• Wait, you think there were too many special effects and gadgetry? Have you only seen the Craig films?
• StingrayStingray Elite Ranger
Actually, I've seen them all. I'm trying to forget Quantum of Solace though and it seems to be working because I can't remember much of it as it is. It's all about the mix of action, character development and screen time. As I said, more flashbacks about the villain would have been more compelling than the silent server room on that WWII fortress island and the subway crash. Now that I've mentioned the second Craig film, it was the total opposite, it seems like it's hard to find a compromise between both extremes.
• I was just implying this had less gadgetry than anything since Russia With Love, and less special effects than Die Another Day (and Roger Moore era, at least for the era in which it was made)
