I figured this would be a good place to post about this, since we all came here because of what would ahve been the last great space combat sim.
I am so excited right now. I hope he does this right.

I'll say I'm cautiously optimistic tho!
I'm curious to see what he's going to do though. At least he's not going to start his own space program. :D
Although it could just be concept art from Freelancer.
Also, while looking through their forums, I stumbled across this rather intriguing article.
I actually imagine that this is what the ITF was supposed to be, but with less linear gameplay and or course real physics...

You can buy the games on gog.com though, if you feel like giving them a try :)
I enjoyed Freelancer quite a lot, one of the few space shooters I actually played all the way through. :)
I had no idea the same man was behind all three...and I love all those games! :) BOO YEA!
So it's going to be a Wing Commander MMO-RPG with single-player and multi-player elements, requiring a bad-a$$ PC to play. ;)
They are one year into the development process and they are now letting people into this project to participate in its production and contribute to its support. It is going to mix a lot of elements of the X space games and Eve Online.
Of course it all sounds great, but unlike other developers, Chris Roberts has the means to pull it off. At last, the PC is getting some love again. ;)
You can watch the presentation here. I missed the beginning of it, so rewatching that now. The graphics alone look amazing, can't wait to actually play this thing! :D
I'm not too hot about that either, but you can play single-player off-line. ;) But then anything is possible at this stage. I guess even Roberts can't get by without a little hype. :)
(I've been waiting for a GOOD online game with a story. Guild Wars tried, Age of Conan did good for the first bit of it, but still had that sense of "Everyone is doing the same thing".
Instances are a good thing for story telling IMHO. Add in a persistent Universe, where between missions I can send messages to friends, etc...yea, it can work. And I think he could do it.
I LOVE the Fidelity he's showing as well.
I chipped in with 30 USD. :)
Kinda makes me want to install Freelancer :)

More gratuitous space carrier porn please...

So the trailer features the UEES "Paul Steed"(*), a Bengal Class Carrier.
(*) I just learned of Paul Steed's passing some time ago, another big name in the 3D graphics industry who left us way too early. The homage is certainly not going to go unnoticed. :)
