Who needs a spaceship?

When you can just drop out of the sky?

This time it's an Austrian, who thinks he can just skydive out of space. :D

I suppose it would be more practical if you didn't have to do all the prep work to get to the point where the whole operation does not put your life at risk.

Somehow I can't shake the feeling all these guys have been watching too many comic book adaptations like Rocketeer and Iron Man. ;)

In the early scripts for Star Trek Generations, Kirk skydives from space at the beginning of the film. It was even filmed, but got cut during editing.

I've also read an article from a Japanese scientist suggesting that it would be possible to descend back from space using what amounts to a big parafoil. The parafoil would slow you sufficiently in the upper atmosphere well before you reach the point where air friction burns you up, and after that it's just like normal parachuting but with higher strength winds. However, "physically feasible" is a long way from "sensible." :)

The Japanese are not really a reference in matters of what is sensible or not. :D
