    When I use my computer to the fullest, I typically have Firefox, itunes, 2 separate eve windows open, teamspeak, eve mon, likely minecraft in the background, steam is running, plus whatever else I just don't close. its windows 7, it can handle it.

    At work I use an old core 2 duo with 2GB ram with Vista. :p

    Open I have 2 remote desktops, some custom app that is slow as hell (should check how it consumes memory), IE browser with at least 6 tabs open, MS Communicator, Outlook, 5 notepads, excel (doesn't contain any major spreadsheet) and sometimes word.

That leads me to believe your motherboard is going tits up the slow way.[/QUOTE]Failing to boot at first try and needing gradually more attempts is one of the first failing signs of PSU's typically Chinese crap capacitors:
    In cold capacitors ESR is high and when capacitors warms up ESR decreases.

    Not taking that seriously is good way to push luck.
