Ink
Falcon1
Elite Ranger
in Zocalo v2.0
I came across an indie film called Ink at the weekend. Found it by accident really was just flicking through some trailers on my tv and pondered on loading one for the above mentiond sci-fi film. There was no description and the screenshot wasn't anything interesting but I was bored so thought what the hell. I am so glad I made that decision as I ended up watching what is the greatest indie film I have ever seen.
Ink really is a work of art. A lot of reviews mention its a bit like the Matrix which is true, it is, but on a different level. I also liken it to Donnie Darko as it has that eerie edge, with some very sinister, creepy moments. The script is superb, cast really good and the effects really suit the film. It apparently only cost $250k to make and if true it really shows up Hollywood with the millions they waste on trash pop-corn flicks (well we all know that anyway, but this film just reinforces this fact). Ink will leave you transfixed. It is a classic tale of light v dark, about loss, regret, remorse and the chance that forgiveness can lead to salvation, a chance to make up for wasted time and missed opportunities. Its deeply moving in places, very powerful and emotive with a poignant underlying message for us all.
Added to this is the score which is remarkable. Created by the director himself it matches the mood and pace of the film perfectly. Some wonderful piano pieces which form the main theme throughout the score. It's so good I bought it immediately on iTunes after watching the movie.
What is a travesty is that this film never got picked up so never got the theatrical release it deserved. As it is low budget there are a few niggles here & there but that's all really. A truly great find!
My favorite line is this:
They're all reactions! One thing begets the next. A man has a weakness, he's flawed. That flaw leads him to guilt. The guilt leads him to shame. The shame he compensates with pride and vanity. And when pride fails, despair takes over and they all lead to his destruction. It will become his fate... Something's gotta stop the flow.
Wow...
