My new business

Falcon1Falcon1 Elite Ranger
With todays news that the UK economy is pretty screwed thanks to our massive debt and everyone has to sell their kids and pets to pay the interest, maybe starting a new business was not the best idea. Anyway I decided to take the plunge in February and setup my own wedding car hire business. I like cars and always wondered if I could mix business with pleasure. I hoping this will allow me to do this.

Here's the web site:

Obviously I'm not looking for business on here, well if any of you state side want to pay for me to drive over there thats fine with me :p

I'd appreciate any feedback on the site etc. Plus I need to get the site link out there to help with back link ranking.

Oh and my car is a Daimler V8 250. Its a lovely car and the V8 sounds superb. Hopefully my venture will succeed so I can expand the fleet and get some more cool classic cars.

In case the wedding business does not work out you could always step into Jason Statham's shoes. ;) You may need a different set of wheels though.

    First impressions:

The site content is sound and the pictures are gorgeous. , the logo, ironically, is in no way memorable. Its generic monotone typeface and mixture of script and standard print makes it feel generic and mass-produced. The gap between the top and bottom segments feels forced and only serves to break up content in ways that are not beneficial to organization. If anything, the site could really benefit from more soft tones, more color, more texture (as the only non-rotating graphic is the flower strip at the bottom).

Regarding logos, I would strongly recommend our own Shadow Boxer for the task. His organic style would very effectively complement the intentions of your site, and his use of color has been effective in applications similar to this in the past.

I once had quite a long conversation with a driver in the Jaguar wedding car business in Auckland. It seems pretty common for it to be done as a side job by people who love old cars and want to help cover the maintenance costs.

The Jaguars were beautiful to ride in, by the way.

    Typo

I think it's been years since I last posted, been lurking in the shadows...

Sanfam, good layout feedback but I can't believe you missed the website typo!

Falcon1 - the front page has a typo, you misspelled Britain as "Britian".

Anyway, great business idea and I hope it works out. Best of luck!
  • Best of luck!

If it doesn't work, you could start divorce car business.

Someone needs to take that couch!

Looks like a very nice car, there is something very cool about old English classics.

  • I think it has something to do with the fact that driver isn't actually the one who drives... It's the co-driver.

Simple, we just run round to the other side of the car! :p

Anyway, looking good Falcon1! Only thing I'd say is more pics of the car from different angles

Thanks for all the comments and support guys. There is a risk that it may just end up being a part time gig but there's a few in the area that are full time and have a good selection of vehicles.

As for Plan B Jason Statham role, I do sometimes have a similar hair cut to him. However I'd probably be closer to Stephen Segal in reality.

She is a lovely car to drive and surprisingly comfortable. Its an auto so that helps. It doesn't have power steering though as it was an optional extra. Its a £1k addition so will need a bit of work first to get that done.

Arik thats for spotting that typo. I cannot believe I missed it, even the copy expert at work missed that! Doh!

Sanfam, thanks for the critique. The font I used is Monotype Corsiva. I spent a fair bit of time looking for a font I felt suited the image I was going for. I found this one and immediately liked it. I sampled the views of friends and family and it went down well. I also got some designers and marketing people at work to review it and they also liked it. I will say that the site isn't done yet. There are more bits to add and I plan to introduce some subtle CSS3 enhancements as well. It is new and will grow and develop as the business matures. Plus you'd be rather shocked at what the majority of my competitors pass off as their business websites. Some are simply shocking. The photos btw are mine.

And yes Shadowdancer I do need more photos from other angles. Plus I need photos of happy smiling couples as well. Once I get some bookings I'll add those to the site.

It's quite shocking indeed, even Rolls Royce isn't what it used to be thanks to globalization. Not that I'd be in the market for one.

I'm impressed by the photos, Falcon! Glad to see you've got the eye for good shots :)

Something to consider in the short term regarding photos of happy married couples: Models. Hiring a pair of models to pose and shoot is probably one of the easiest ways to really get some perfect sample photos. While photographing customers is often convenient, they are rarely able to be dressed or arranged as to best market a product without disruptive work, at which point they essentially become models themselves. With a pair of professionals, you gain complete control.

I still strongly stand by my suggestion of aiming toward a logo. Having a brand icon significantly raises the perceived value of your service without notable expense.
