Kick-Ass...
Stingray
Elite Ranger
in Zocalo v2.0
... kicks a$$. I saw the trailers a while back and the movie does indeed not disappoint. Ok, so Roger didn't like it (1 out of 4 stars). Well, apparently he's one of the very few critics who shouldn't have watched it then. Oddly enough he gave a 4 star rating to Pulp Fiction (ok, so there's no 11-year old girl in that one.). As can be seen on the IMDb page, it scores an 8.3 out of 10 and I agree with that assessment. If you go in with an open (juvenile) mind you'll enjoy this film. It's another take on the superhero theme and I think it works, regardless whether you like comic books or not.
Roger is just over-analyzing a piece of footage and maybe he forgot what life at 11 years old used to be. You don't have to be 18 to feel anger, frustration and the need to deal with adversity.
And a sequel is apparently already planned for a 2012 release. Thankfully critics don't make movies (or video games for that matter). :D

I agree that Roger is over-analyzing. The way the movie was made, you couldn't take it seriously.
Because his reviews are often spot on and here he is quite wrong as is shown by the views of the other critics.
The movie I think shows the cost and risks of violence and does not trivialize it. As one reviewer said, if squirting blood does not make you laugh, this movie is not for you.
I say if Nicholas Cage playing Big Daddy (Batman) makes you laugh then this movie is definitely for you. Just the scene in that trailer where he practices with his daughter is as priceless as it is shocking.
The point is that Ebert is usually right and he has been doing a good job for a long while now and that's why people trust his judgment. Of course he's not infallible. That's why I think it's a good idea to have a separate rating coming from his readership which btw, gave Kick-Ass a 3.5 out of 4 stars rating.
