Gathering of FirstOnes 2010, US-Region.

Recently, a few among us started talking about some interesting ideas for what would make a good trip. At some point the discussion turned toward the impending retirement of the Space Shuttle, and how much we'd love to see it. Then it hit me. Why couldn't we organize a trip to go watch the final launch in person? We've had a few small gatherings in the past, but this seems like a perfect opportunity to take a little time and do something fun with it.
Dates: September 15 - 19.
Where: Roughly in and around the Cape Canaveral region of Florida.
Who: Us!
I'd like to see if we can get enough of us together to make a really good time of it. I'm going to be heading down with near certainty, and I know there are others here who have done said trip before. Several of us are even in the region already. Trips to the region are cheap, and a major airport (Orlando) isn't particularly far from the area so cheap airfare could be had via JetBlue, Southwest, or AirTran.

It's a great idea!
I'm down in Florida for the next 3 weeks, and there isn't a shuttle launch in sight! dammit!
Anyway, if you *can* come, that would be fantastic. Making a quick trip down to meet what is likely the site's administrative body and a couple of other minions wouldn't be a bad opportunity to relax! You know those Maine hotties will wait for your return :p Anyway, I'm suspecting the shuttle won't be extended any further. The budget wasn't expanded to include such a goal, so it's doubtful.
And with luck, the launch won't be scrubbed for our stay :P
As for the shuttle, I know there was no money in the budget for it to be extended, but the money that was earmarked for Aries is supposed to go back into nasa's budget for other things (From what i've read) and without the shuttle or aries, what does NASA have to get things to the ISS.
Entil'Zha, convince the wife to watch over the cafe! ;)
I think this is what killed it... :p
Something fishy is going on, he can't be that busy. The underground cellar to keep his victims must be finished by now.
