what do you think?

i found this site on another. it never struck me to look for babylon5 fansites, because i do not consider myself to be a fan of anything.

now that i'm here, i might as well talk a little about it.
in my opinion the babylon5 series is the most important production of the last 20 years, if not more. this opinion is based on several reasons which i will post when the time is right.
right now i'd like to ask the rest of the remaining community the following:

why do you like babylon5? is it in some way important to you? what do you think?

I grew up with it. As corny as it sounds it shaped a lot of my values and how I see the world. For me it was very important.
  • I honestly loved all the politics, and Londo's character. I've always been attracted to the tragedies, particularly ones that end with some foreshadowing of a better tomorrow. Take Hamlet, he dies, he gets his revenge, his uncle dies, his mother dies...but then the conquering ruler shows up, and despite how he is portrayed we know he'll be a good and fair ruler.

Londo is very similar, a tragic character, yet in his death we know Vir will be a good and fair ruler. As G'Kar once said "It is said that the future is always born in pain. The history of war is the history of pain. If we are wise, what is born of that pain matures into the promise of a better world, because we learn that we can no longer afford the mistakes of the past".

So many great quotes...yea. Babylon 5 is a part of my life. I think we can all say that. :D

Oh, and Welcome! The Beer's in the fridge, and the nuts are all over the board.

Pretty much what Croxis said. I grew up watching Babylon 5 and Star Trek and as much as I like the latter, B5 had a much greater impact on how I view the world.

Yep, Croxis hit the nail on the head there. B5 is probably the single greatest influence on my life and values. It also has helped me get through some very difficult times, and for that I'm forever greatful to JMS
  • Well said Croxis...

The downsize for this is that there are so few people in this world who follow the same values, even vaguely.
Makes you sometimes feel a bit lonely, angry and actually trusting people is extremely hard in some cases.

But in the end, you understand how right your instincts were and praise the wise JMS.

Maybe this brainwashing has been some Psi Corps plot...

Yes, we must trust the Corps
  • I, again, agree with Croxis :)
  • Yeah, Croxis pretty much summed it up for me. Besides the characters and themes of the show, I also really liked the feeling of scale and the imagination of the show. With such a small budget, I'm amazed at how they managed to make the universe of B5 feel so big and wonderous.
