As for video games, I've seen it so far in Scene It! and Burnout Paradise.
As for TV, in Fringe a week or two ago, Olivia made a point to call her niece from her snazzy Ford Sync setup in her Ford automobile. Definite product placement there. I have seen it elsewhere as well. Not as blatant as bulletin boards though I think I'd prefer that.
They'll have to put billboards inside the show sets to have me check out their commercials... oops, did I just give away an idea how to incorporate ads into a TV show? Probably not.
Yeah, probably not, given that's been standard practice for decades. :)
Product placement is becoming very blatant. White Collar (good show BTW) had a really obnoxious placement of the Ford Taurus and it's tailgating alert feature.
One of the better placements recently was 30 Rock and the Cisco teleconference technology. It obnoxiously blatant, but palatable since tougue is planted in cheek: http://www.therawfeed.com/2009/11/rock-cisco-product-placement-lasts.html
Actually, I don't mind product placement. If it's new or upcoming gear that is soon going to hit the market, I'm all for it. Unfortunately it's often that those cool devices don't even exist as prototypes and it's just movie magic at work.
Ads are part of the social environment. Even in Fallout 3 you had fake ads, or ads aping other products. In GTA IV or MW2 you'll run into many stores and restaurants that poke fun of that.
Those city games wouldn't be as realistic if they didn't feature advertisement. Since we are all used to that, we can already filter it out and ignore it. Which is probably the reason why we don't see more of it. You can't force people to watch ads, you can trick them for a while, but I don't know many ads that made me run out and buy anything. :D
As people switch to the convenience of commercial skipping DVRs (and other time-delayed, commercial-lax formats), the media suppliers need to find new ways to keep planting brands and products. Eureka tried a similar run of product placement for the latest season, with the results being anywhere from subtle and friendly to having what amounted to episodes literally starring the product (in one case, the world was saved by one, and another had copious amounts of dialogue and face-time dedicated to bragging about its product, a Subaru WRX)
Also, why would The Soup go away? Popular shows will still be popular, so why would the drama and dumbness associated with them suddenly stop? That show could make a killing on micro-subscription alone.
Anyone still watching? I did some catching up to episode 11 and I must say the show is quite fun to watch. Since they supposedly reworked the story I must say that they've managed to keep me interested. Even with some cheesy plot devices the show does not lower itself to a plain daytime soap opera. One thing about B5 I enjoyed most was the scheming factions, we get plenty of that in V.
Morena Baccarin is doing a great job at playing that killer queen. :D
Episode 12 is the (mid-?) season finale and it also feels like one too. Suffice it to say the casualty list is high. I'm not sure why some had to die and others were revived, but I guess some contracts may have been renewed and others not. For all the teasing that has been going on all these decades, I really want to see a TV series that shows me how to take over the world. :D
Skipping all previous posts to avoid spoliers... is this show good? I kinda forgot about it then noticed it was on sifi over here. Watched 1 episode which looked ok. Cast aint have bad. Though I do prefer Morena with long hair.
There are a few threads of the show that I find interesting at times, but in the end I have found myself bored most episodes. I just don't find myself getting engaged in the storyline. At the end of the first season, I am not really invested in any of the characters, either.
I hear that you're saying about Morena. I'd say about every other episode, either my wife or I were saying, "I miss Inara."
Personally I am disappointed that V got the renew over FlashForward (which, I thought, held greater promise to be a show with legs; at least I cared what happened to the characters on FF).
Oh well. It's better than reality TV. For lack of a better option, I'll at least start the second season in the fall, and see how it does.
My wife was also very disappointed that FF didn't get renewed vs V. I think had FF started after Lost had finished they might have picked some that audience.
Despite my negativity above, I do have one thing to say.
Inara can make her mouth really big. I mean, sure, she Spoiler: went all lizard-mouth earlier in the season, but I'm pretty sure the close up shot of her in the last episode was not doctored by CG. If that's true, she has a really wide mouth!
Thats a real shame FF got cancelled. It had its flaws but it had a lot of potential. I think ABC hoped it would replace Lost. It never was at that level but it was worth taking to a 2nd season.
Will have a look at V again. Maybe it will pick up in s2...

This means the end of the E! channel, but also the demise of the Soup :(

Who else was there?

Give it a try, see if you like it. Can't hurt.
