WORFWORF The Burninator
It's starting tonight, anyone going to be watching?

I haven't actually seen the original, something I may fix after my current run through BSG and depending on how much I like the concept of this new series.

Of course, one of the main reasons to watch:

• I will be watching...well, DVR'ing and watching later. Cautiously optimistic.

I've not seen the original either, although its long been on my list of things to watch. I'll be watching and hoping it doesnt suck

The trailer looks ok... let's see... it's got another Firefly alumnus Alan Tudyk in the ranks too... and one from Lost (Elizabeth Mitchell) as well, cool. :)

What, no firefly pictures? :p

Seemed a good opening. Certainly sparked the questions!

Episode 1: I like the premise, despite this being a remake, it's an interesting setup anyway. I mean, even though the odds are against it, what would it be like to make first contact? I've asked myself this question many times. It never gets old.

What I'm a bit sceptic about is that they'd let civilians board their spaceships so quickly. Even if it's part of the ploy to get the general population to trust them, it's somewhat pushing it. I mean they don't let just anyone inspect the next supercar at a car trade show, so letting Joe Shmoe check out a high-tech spaceship seems like a bit of a stretch. The local authorities would most likely prevent it. But maybe it's just me. The show's creators are probably just condensing time and cutting the delays and red tape. :D

Morena Baccarin is quite a stunner, yet again. I think this show got off to a good start. The SFX were ever present but not intruding, unlike the FBI mom. Why adults always get portrayed like they are so out of touch with their kids' world is hopefully something this show will not dwell on. Like anyone still needs to figure that one out. Last generation's parents has still trouble figuring out the first generation of cell phones. I don't think they got a chance figuring out alien psychology. ;)

The black couple's relationship isn't going to last much longer if the guy keeps telling his babe that nobody keeps calling him. It's tough enough to leave shady business behind, but it's tougher to keep an inquisitive girlfriend from being curious. "Is it an ex-girlfriend calling my man?" Or, he could just have his phone number changed. But then I'd be trying to apply common sense to a nonsensical situation.

Overall though, pretty cool! Could we have some more please? :)

They're letting people aboard the ships to "recruit" them and it's not as if they were letting people near anything sensitive, like the bridge or engineering.

Interesting first episode, a few things that I'm not sure about but we'll see how it goes.

My point is, we don't trust each other on this planet, why would we trust aliens from another world? :D

Because people are stupid.

Of what I caught I thought the first episode was decent.

The one complaint I had, they should of made the "aliens are lizards" reveal more significant. Given that a significant majority of the audience knew this already (even if they hadn't watched the original), why not play that part out a little more? Play up the confusion as to who the good and bad guys are etc?

Now that you mention it, they didn't say under which administration the invasion took place. :D

I'm sure the subject matter of who's a lizard and who isn't is going to show up more often over time. I bet the black couple is going to have more pressing issues than anonymous phone calls in the future.

Hot aliens... Check!

And they aren't even blue. :D

V - Episode 2: Has yet another BSG alumnus, Rekha Sharma (who played Tori Foster, the Cylon who became president Roslin's aid).

Looks like this show is going to build a lot around who you can trust and who you should be honest with. I kind of like that approach as it makes for some interesting twists.

I'd say we've got a keeper!! :)

It's OK for me, definitely enough to keep me watching, but not as intriguing as FastForward. Of course that likely that in V you know the Vistors are the bad guy, where as FF you are just finding out who the bad guys are. Some of V's "shock reveals" have been so so, I mean [sp]how much of a shock was it to see Alan Tudyk's character coming back?[/sp]

Speaking of blue aliens, did anyone see last nights South Park? Dances with Smurfs!

I wasn't surprised to see him back, but we did get the answer as to where he had disappeared to. I'm not really familiar with the original V series (only saw a few episodes as a kid), so I can't really tell what their true abilities are supposed to be.

This show doesn't look like it's a remake, it's a reboot.

I prefer to know who the bad guys are. :D FF seems to be more about how people deal with uncertainties and doubt. Besides, we already know a few of those involved in creating those blackouts.
• StingrayStingray Elite Ranger
Episode 3 fleshes out more of the details about the people involved. It's starting to become difficult to keep track of who is on whose side and who is playing which side against the other. I don't like shows where you have to take notes just to stay on top. If they keep adding more characters this one is going to be hard to watch. I can't even remember all their names... :D I do remember faces a lot better.

Overall I liked it. Some might find it somewhat boring as there is a distinct lack of real action. The show tries a bit too much in its attempt to appeal to everybody. Those who like political intrigue will probably enjoy it more as the various relationships become more complicated.

Episode 4 picks up the pace and we catch a glimpse of the lion's den.... I mean the engine room of the mother ship. While most of the cruelness happens off camera, some of the implied violence is quite shocking. I don't recall that from the original show. No scifi show is complete without futuristic computer consoles. V is no exception. Finally, some pyrotechnics.

Anyway, I'll keep watching at least for as long as they keep making episodes.

BTW, don't get that flu shot. :D
• WORFWORF The Burninator
You probably shouldn't watch Lost then.

Episode 3 and 4 give us a really good look at what to expect from the show. Now we just have to hope they don't cancel it between now and when it's supposed to resume next year.

I'm up to speed on Lost. After several seasons you get to know the characters pretty well. I expect this to happen here too, that's if we get that many seasons of course.
• croxiscroxis I am the walrus
Apparently V is now on hiatus so it can be retooled by the network. It lost 27% viewership between episode 1 and 2, which is a significant drop. We'll see what the networks destroy next.
• StingrayStingray Elite Ranger
I hope they are not solely basing their decisions on broadcast viewership. Unless they've been living underneath a rock they should know by now that people don't like to be told when and how they would like to watch those shows.

Just because people don't like their commercials to be interrupted by TV shows, doesn't mean that said show needs to be fixed.

If they keep doing these touch and goes people will just stop watching TV altogether.

This might actually get me to read even more. :D
• croxiscroxis I am the walrus
That is how they view it. TV is a business, the studios are attempting to make a profit by buts in seats for advertisement. While DVR is a factor studios look at now, it is not their primary interest as people fastforward through commercials. If broadcast vieweships drop they will lose money and will attempt to rectify the situation by making the show more appealing to improve ad revenue.

As one exec/marketer put it, they would rather put out 10 crappy shows that makes profit than 1 award winning show that only makes its money back.

To think that free television is some sort of right is naive.
• HuntSmackerHuntSmacker Firstones Ambassador to Starcraftia
Come on, 27% is expected with a science fiction series. Some people just 'dont do' scifi.
• croxiscroxis I am the walrus
Really. I never heard of this before.
• HuntSmackerHuntSmacker Firstones Ambassador to Starcraftia
Afraid so.
• croxiscroxis I am the walrus
No, the 27% drop being acceptable. Series have been canceled for less
• StingrayStingray Elite Ranger
Well, we already know that they don't care... so, yeah, good for them. They'll have to put billboards inside the show sets to have me check out their commercials... oops, did I just give away an idea how to incorporate ads into a TV show? Probably not.

They keep talking about creating revenue that way inside video games. Can't say I've seen this really happen yet.
