WORFWORF The Burninator
Did anyone else watch this?

The first episode was good and seemed like an interesting concept. I'm curious to see where it goes.

I've got it on my TiVo, but have not had time to watch it yet.

I thought it was good. Certainly a strong start to a new series.

It's funny to find cast members from totally different shows/movies acting together in this one. :D

Well, we'll have to just wait and see how it's going to unfold.

Supposedly there is an ad for Oceanic Airlines in one scene too ;)

It's a new show by Brannon Braga (yes, that one) called FlashForward.

It's yet another apocalyptic show that starts off strong but with nowhere else to go but down will eventually get cancelled. Enjoy it while it lasts. :D

Your pessimism is sadly probably justified
• How dare you not have faith in Braga. He's been working in the industry for almost twenty years, which proves that he MUST be good!
And no, I don't watch this, suprise suprise, and I don't really watch much of anything these days.

If Braga is involved, I expect to see Nazis at some point. Possibly from space.
• Random ChaosRandom Chaos Actually Carefully-selected Order in disguise
Space nazis in central LA after they take over time and space and push everyone into a temporal deja vu loop in order to create worldwide mass hallucinations of the future which they recreate on their holodeck to prove it comes true while forcing everyone to fight as klingons.

• Watched the premiere yesterday. I thought it was pretty good. The acting wasn't bad, and the mysteries that were raised definitely caught my interest. I'll keep watching it for now.
• Good name, I used the "forward" button a lot... Didn't really catch my interest, maybe I'll check some other episode later.

I miss Jericho.
• I use the Forward button too...to skip commercials.

Couldn't agree with you more on Jericho.

- The second episode basically turns the show into your regular FBI investigation drama. As time goes on, certain key elements seen in the flash forwards appear and the characters react to them.

One of the funnier moments was when [SP]the FBI chief had to give mouth to mouth resuscitation to a colleague who was drowning with his face stuck in a urinal during the black-out. I mean this could actually happen, right?[/SP] :D

The show isn't that bad actually. I suppose this has more to do with the proven who-done-it formula which is at work here than Braga being particularly original. So far the show hasn't turned out into yet another X-Files spin-off like Fringe.

- The third episode could be considered a filler episode, a lot of character development but little in the way of overall plot evolution. At several instances I almost feared the show might actually turn into a day-time soap. And guess what, a former Nazi got embedded into the plot. I bet no one saw that coming. ;)

- The fourth episode is yet another filler episode with more character development and how they cope (or don't) with their visions. This time we get some medical drama peppered in. I was expecting Dr. Crusher to burst into the OR but she never materialized. Another "Lost" actor makes his appearance though... which I guess we'll be seeing more of, but this time without his guitar. :D

As expected this show is coming down to its cruising altitude after having started off in LEO. It's watchable, but don't expect to be sitting on the edge of your seat at any time. At least Fringe has Walter to supply the comic relief. FlashForward is taking itself a wee bit too seriously IMHO.

Episode 5 makes you feel like you are watching an episode of West Wing, with the exception that you'll see two lesbians kissing while cooking breakfast. Like that would shock anyone these days. What shocked me was seeing two guys making fools of themselves at a Karaoke machine. :D The episode truly picks up at the end and spices things up a little. Not a moment too soon I might add.

The politics in episode 5 made me think I was watching 24 actually.

Worf
• StingrayStingray Elite Ranger
I can't compare it to 24, as I haven't watched that show, at all.

Episode 6 is starting to develop the dark side of the plot from the perspective of the villains. As mentioned earlier Dominic Monaghan plays a bad guy and I can't help but see Charlie Pace from Lost who played Merry in LotR. He's suffering from the Mark "Luke Skywalker" Hamill syndrome. Mark Hamill managed to shake that image off and is doing a great job as the voice of The Joker in recent Batman projects. I suppose Monaghan should be able to do so in time but for now, he's still playing himself, this time as a surfer boy in a suit. :D

I don't buy him as a villain, nor as a mad scientist. He might as well be wearing a cheerleader outfit. It would be just as effective.

The show grows on me as I watch it and I hope it will last longer than half a season.
•
I don't buy him as a villain, nor as a mad scientist
Oh you will...you will. heh heh heh.

Episode 7 was pretty much a filler episode. So we got a guest appearance of a familiar Cylon, Leoben Conoy, and guess what, we lost a cast member. The show is in the shadow of the RDM curse.

Funny moment, an FBI agent wearing a "The Police" sweat shirt. :D

Also, why do people who have nothing left to loose end up in a secret S&M night club? Those writers need to get their heads examined.
• SanfamSanfam I like clocks.
So I'm caught up through episode six, and I can't help but like what I've seen. Sure, it's just another mystery, but the writing is proving to be genuinely good. A select few of the characters fall into some pretty harsh cliches, but the rest of the show has enough good writing to stand on its own.

I'm really looking forward to learning more of the story behind why the experiment occurred and how it loops back to the flashes.

This is B-worthy material. Not bad at all for only six episodes in.
• StingrayStingray Elite Ranger
Episode 8 is finally a bit more up my alley, some action, some intrigue, some humour, all nicely presented.

The future is looking promising for this show as well if they can keep people watching.
• StingrayStingray Elite Ranger
Episode 9: Another filler episode with some twists and turns. I suppose it's necessary to flesh out the story even though some of the characters involved don't seem to play that important a role. It's almost like the show's writers don't know what kind of show they want FlashForward to be, a police procedural or a medical drama.

I did like the social commentary part of this episode about women on the job. Japan is probably not the only country which has problems shaking its old habits.
• BigglesBiggles The Man Without a Face
Perhaps the writers aren't trying to make FlashForward either type of show? Perhaps it's about more than just the story? Perhaps it's as much about the characters and how they deal with the new situations they find themselves in after the flash forward as it is about the solving the mystery of the flash forward?
• StingrayStingray Elite Ranger
Sure, lack of direction can be explained as being original. :D

It's not a bug, it's a feature...
• BigglesBiggles The Man Without a Face
I don't think "does not fit neatly into pre-defined programme type" is the same as "lacks direction."
• StingrayStingray Elite Ranger
But, but, but... I don't want to watch a medical procedural. :(
• SanfamSanfam I like clocks.
I do believe Stingray has hit on a bit of the problem with its audience. FlashForward has managed to float between genres in such a way as to not keep any viewers of either massive field terribly interested for long enough. Personally, I prefer what biggles mentioned: Character drama.
