Tunnel Rats
Stingray
Elite Ranger
in Zocalo v2.0
I've heard many wacky things about Uwe Boll, the notorious German director who keeps making "movies" that his detractors keep dragging through the mud.
I hadn't seen any of his works until now. I thought I might go in with an open mind and check out his highest rated film in IMDb's listing, a whopping 4.4 out of 10.
Tunnel Rats is about the Vietnam war and the soldiers (friend and foe) involved in the battles that took place inside the tunnels dug into the jungle floor by the Vietcongs.... and that sums up the story of the entire movie. That's all you'll see for 92 minutes. And just when you think there is something interesting starting between that US soldier who's trapped inside an underground shelter with a Vietnamese farm girl turned freedom fighter, the end credits roll.
Uwe Boll gets credited for directing and writing the screenplay. If I had to point out what this movie is lacking it's direction and screenplay. Like someone tried to make a movie without a director and a screenplay writer. Technically there is little to complain about, you've got your set pieces, explosions, booby traps, sound effects.
I'm not going to rate this movie as it wouldn't be fair to all the others involved in its making (not that it makes any difference). We often complain about how the gaming industry is often rushing unfinished games into stores. Well, this is a prime example of what Tunnel Rats is, a half-baked film.
At least now I have a better idea of where his detractors are coming from.

I'm sorry but Boll is no Picasso. :D
I mean Tunnel Rats has no lead actor(s) to speak of, you just see people doing their thing and after 92 minutes it's over. There is no red line to follow, no dramatic structure, nada. It's like he's never even seen a good movie himself.
I was shaking my head in disbelief halfway through the movie. He's basically wasting everyone's time.
