That's just a firm sea. A rough sea is the one that breaks the ship because it never listened to its mother when it was told not to be rough with its toys.
Ugh, seasick
Are you trying to say that cruise like this wouldn't be fun?

Yeah, you're right... waves would have to damn big to look like much from that height and big ships just lack "rock and roll"...

• I can say that it has been a privilege to be in the helm of a 78 meters long military ship during a big storm in Finnish scale. Not to mention ice breaking during winter...

Sea truly is a magnificent element, you need to experience it yourself.

Yeah, been there, done that. While I didn't get seasick myself, I can tell you there is nothing quite more amazing to watch than an entire restroom floor covered in vomit, with bits and liquids sliding from one side to the other in a mild storm. :D

Remember, the all-you-can-eat buffet is a trap. :D I saw the waves inside the harbour and settled for a single serving.

There's nothing like being on a dance floor of the party hall of a ferry boat with the ground moving underneath your feet. Quite an experience that's still vivid in my mind.
• I have been in a 45 foot boat in 20-25 foot waves, no it is not fun. it gets in the way of good fishing.

I always wanted to go to sea but the Navy wouldnt have me. I was going to do oceanography at uni, but my Dad nixed that idea on the basis that I wouldnt get a job at the end of it. I just have to make do with looking at it these days heh

Why is it that lowering of lifeboats/rafts is always depicted to happen in gracefull fashion while when those are most needed chances for that are same as number of "r"s in fat chance?

You can thank your dad for this wise decision later. It's nice to be able to study just about anything you want, but most of us need to work for a living later on so picking something with a job at the end is unfortunately a necessity.

Of course it depends on the industry or job market in your area, if you plan to stay there.

Oddly enough, oceanographers can actually get jobs. It may not be as easy as getting a job at McDonalds, but it's far from impossible.
• MessiahMessiah Failed Experiment
Wouldnt an oceanographer be a tad overqualified for a job at McDonalds?
• StingrayStingray Elite Ranger
The getting a job part isn't the problem here, it's getting one in your field of study that is hard. I know of a few examples and it's quite shocking and even unconscionable in some cases.

Its something I'd like to go back to do one day, but in the mean time I'm quite happy working in radiography. Its just a shame I had to do 3yrs of geology before I figured that out heh
