Harry Potter 6 (mayhap a spoiler?)

MessiahMessiah Failed Experiment
Excellent. Best film yet, really want the producer to make the rest.

Better than 5 for sure but still glaring errors from the books. I kept whispering when Ginny and Harry were in the Room of Requirement "not now, no!"

    I went in costume :)

    Of course you did. :)

Yeah, there were some discrepancies, such as the burning of the Weasley estate, but over all very minor and all good.

Heh I figured you would Dax! :)

Yeah there were some bits I didnt like, especially when the Death Eaters attacked the Burrow; it seemed like it was purely put in there to break all the dialogue.

On the whole tho I liked it, even when Dumbledore dies. It was nicely understated, especially when they all raise their wands in salute. It did all feel rather rushed tho, so I'm hoping there are some scenes added when it comes out on DVD

Well, them attacking the Burrow was in the books, just not the burning of it.

I missed the whole students battle death eaters at the school. I really wish they had included that scene.

Messiah: yeah it might have been in the book, but the way it was done in the movie was just wrong. I was sitting there thinking 'why?' as it didnt actually make any contribution to the story, it just seemed like an excuse to have some action.

RC: yeah I missed that also, it would have been a far better piece of 'action' than burning down the Burrow. The other thing I really wanted to see was Dumbledore's funeral, but I guess now that the Burrow has been burnt down, that's where the Death Eater attack at the start of Deathly Hallows is going to take place

Did anyone else feel that apart from Dumbledore, Harry, Hermione and Ron, all the other characters felt chronically underused? For instance, Hagrid seemed like a cameo.

I need to see it again I think, see if my opinion changes any, but I think Order of the Pheonix of Goblet of Fire would have to be my favourites out of the movies so far

I felt Order of the Pheonix was by far the worst of the movies:

    1. They cut out the really fun magic swamp.
    2. They broke future movies by making the room of requirement enter-able.
    3. It was no where near as dark as the book, never evoking the despair that should have existed at the school.
    4. No story run in Luna's father's paper.

Frankly, Order of the Pheonix should have been a 2-part movie. The book was way too "long" in terms of scenes and action for a single movie.

In comparison #6 was long enough, they just added a couple scenes that made no sense and dropped a couple that would have been great to see on the big screen.

I cant deny you have some good points there, I think what I'm more getting at is essentially the way they were put together. Phoenix just felt 'smoother' to watch somehow, whereas in this one some of the plot/dialogue etc just seemed very abrupt.

BTW, did anyone else think Alan Rickman has put on a fair bit of weight, or was it just me?

I think a lot of that might be poor acting by Watson. It's been endemic since #4. You might have noticed she only had a couple brief scenes in #5 as a result where in the books she was a major, integral character. In #4 and #6 she had some really badly acted scenes with "huff" sounds that just threw you out of the movie.

Here's what I feel about Order of the Phoenix: It felt more cohesive than the previous films, but was a less enthralling story than that of Azkaban. The one thing setting Azkaban above the rest was simply the truly dynamic and exciting conclusion. I haven't seen Potter 6, so I cannot judge appropriately, but the rest of the potter films (save Goblet) have ended with boring, predictable battles of might and magic. There's lots of sparkle, loads of flare, but never much of any character drama or true excitement. The execution of the overrunning arc in Azkaban was outright brilliant! Goblet managed to gain points by offering the first true vision of Voldemort, giving body to he who was previously only referred to as the great evil baddy. Seeing him, hearing him...everything came together.
