Transformers 2 [spoiler, oh lots of spoilers]

MessiahMessiah Failed Experiment
Saw it yesterday. Wanted to let it mature in my stomach before I posted about it.

Over all a good movie, but not near the first one. Lots of more action in this one.
What they did good in the first film, they over-did in this one. And the Spielberg humour shines through. Seriously, a stick [k]and a beard[/k]??
Kinda funny to see Jetfire as the decepticon gone good, but this time hes the oldest and not the youngest..
Wheelie: Good and bad. As said before, they take the good and ruin it by going too far.
The twins: Same as Wheelie.
Optimus: Does he rock! A bit too much sometimes, but hey, hes supposed to be über.

The entire movie did seem a bit rushed sometimes as well, but I guess its better the second time. :D

In the end, I was waiting for Jetfire to show up with Grimlock et al., but they never came.. I was so sure they were the rest of the oldies on earth. :(

• Yeah, Optimus kicked so much ass in this movie.
• To bad he was about the only thing that kicked ass. (Slicing off Starscream's arm and beating him with it was friggin awesome)

The film relied way to much on slapstick for it's humor, and the twins were just downright annoying. The plot was rushed and jumped around, Wheelie was funny until he started humping, then it was too over the top. The dogs went to far right from the get go. I'm sorry but dog humping is not funny to me. Everything that had to do with the humans seemed to be sexual innuendo, even the parents half the time. The mom went from being a little ditsy in the first movie to just aggravatingly annoying in this one, and I'm not even counting the "my baby's all grown up" breakdown. Why do films with secret government/military projects always seem to have some ass hole politician that wants to shut them down for no good reason, accusing them of being the problem instead of the solution? It's friggin annoying. I mean this guy actually asked them why Optimus sent a signal inviting others to come to earth without the White House's approval. Does the White House make decisions for the whole planet? When did that happen? (and please no Bush jokes, I know it's an obvious setup.) Especially as the politician did absolutely nothing but get Nest "shut down". But they went where they had to anyway so it changed nothing and as such added nothing to the film, so it wasn't even a well used cliche.

Speaking of which this film had so many cliches and hard to stomach moments it was actually hard to enjoy the GIANT F-ING ROBOTS!!! that I loved so much about the first film. I never expected it to be intelligent or anything, but at least the first film had heart. This one just had a giant pair of robot balls.
I mean come on, Sam is "The Chosen one?" He come back to life after his girlfriend says she love him?

And what is with energon being produced by destroying suns? Really, the transformers have to destroy entire solar systems to survive?

I figured the film was in trouble when I saw an interview with Megan Fox while they were still filming when she was talking about how cool it was going to be because it had so many more explosions and stuff, oh but the script isn't finished yet, but it's going to be so cool. I never expected it would be this bad though. I mean come on, what are GIANT F-ING ROBOTS!!! if not complete spectacle, and who does spectacle better than Michael Bay? I guess it shows that even a spectacle film has to have at least a little something more.

cliches and Michael Bay are synonymous.
• CurZCurZ Resident Hippy
Look, there's only one question that matters in a Michael Bay movie. Were there enough low-flying helicopters?

Eh, I think I wait until DVD on this one, I held no hope that it was better than the first and the first was marginal.

I will have to say this about the first movie, for all the bad dialoge and plot loops, it keep me on the edge of my seat the entire movie. Even my wife, who rolled her eyes at the thought of watching what amounts to a male GenXers nostalgia trip admitted that it kept her engaged.

Matter of fact I had specificly avoided rewatching the first one so I wouldn't ruin the spectacle of as Akrovah put it, "GIANT F-ING ROBOTS!!!" by having to be reminded on all the glaring plot loops and cheesey storytelling devices.

I had some fond memories of meeting Sanfam at the Air and Space museum!

And I thought that the dialogue was less awkward (even if the plot was crazier) in this one than the first.

I know Ebert's giving it a hard time but come on.. it's a movie about ROBOTS- what do you expect?
• SanfamSanfam I like clocks.
Yay, a positive memory associated with me!

Now to tarnish it! *sinister laugh*

I was disappointed.

I set my expectations so low for the first one that I was pleasantly surprised when it turned out to be not that bad. This one, unfortunately, was just the opposite. I set my expectations too high for a summer blockbuster sequel.

The movie was WAY too long and, like most (all) Michael Bay movies, overdone. Too many explosions and big robots. I think I'm getting desensitized to this stuff because I felt bored throughout much of the second half of the film.

Oh well, at least seeing "The Hangover" tonight more than made up for it. :D

I dont think I'll bother seeing it to be honest. I really thought the first one was pretty lame, so after what you guys have been saying about the sequel I dont think I'll waste my money

I saw the first movie and I didn't care for the messy over-the-top action towards the second half of the movie. If I want to get brainwashed, I want to see a movie with only Megan Fox in it. :D

As far as classic TV cartoons go, Transformers was never in my top 20, so I'm still surprised that the movies turn out so well.

I guess Michael Bay is not as bad as they make him out to be, but he needs to add a little more focus and a little less brawn to his work.
• Loved it. It gave me exactly what I expected, giant robots fighting! I wasn't bored during any of it, kept my interest throughout.

I never expected too much believability in the characters--it's a movie about alien robots.

I never expected the plot to take itself too seriously--it's a move about alien robots.

I never expected the writing to be Oscar material (though it was better than much of the other drivel out there)--you get the idea.

In many ways I enjoyed it more than the first. My wife and I really enjoyed the humor in it, from the parents to the twins. Maybe that makes us shallow. *shrug* Oh well:)

Can't wait for number 3 :D
• DarthCaligulaDarthCaligula Elite Ranger
How the hell did those horribly racist stereotype twins get though. Hell, I almost expected them to start eating watermelons and drinking grape juice.
And what was with all the dick jokes? Seriously, it was like the movie was written by a horny 13 year old boy.
• SanfamSanfam I like clocks.
I find it hilarious how it's taken several days for the hype to dye down and the twins to make front-page buzz across almost the entire face of the internet.
• croxiscroxis I am the walrus
I remember reading that there was only one month to get the script together from start to finish due to the writers strike, and it is somewhat obvious. Megan's Fox character was rendered down to running around with her hand held, and they tried too hard emphasizing her sexyness tot he point of making her look whorish.

And the twins were very annoying. If that what hip-hop humor is I am going to comfortably stay in my pacific northwest passive aggressive sarcasm!

That being said, I enjoyed the movie. Big space alien robots! While I agree it wasn't as polished as the first one, I don't think it is as bad as a lot of people make it out to be.

Huh? I figured the twins were hillbillies, not african americans..
• BigglesBiggles <font color=#AAFFAA>The Man Without a Face</font>
Did they take the important-artifact-that-the-really-evil-guys-want from the desert into the middle of a densely populated area this time?
• Random ChaosRandom Chaos Actually Carefully-selected Order in disguise
No, they kept it in the desert.

Fun to see once. Doubt I would ever want to see it again.
• I think I'm going to try to go see it a second time tomorrow or Thursday when the Mrs. is in class:)
• SpiritOneSpiritOne Magneto ABQ NM
i might do the same just to say I saw it.

Whats so wrong with that, lots of more hiding places in the city.
• SpiritOneSpiritOne Magneto ABQ NM
yeah but there is the whole endangering other peoples lives aspect. Do you think those girls survived their SUV being turned into a transformer?

Haha the only thing wrong with that clip was the lack of low flying helicopters
• SpiritOneSpiritOne Magneto ABQ NM
that was clearly NOT transformers II by Michael bay. No where near enough explosions.
• BigglesBiggles <font color=#AAFFAA>The Man Without a Face</font>
I thought the exact same thing mere seconds into the clip.
• ShadowDancerShadowDancer When I say, "Why aye, gadgie," in my heart I say, "Och aye, laddie." London, UK
More importantly it also lacked Megan Fox goodness ;)
• Lord RefaLord Refa Creepy, but in a good way
Saw it at south bank Imax last weekend.. Did I like it? Not much no.. Did I enjoy it? Yes. Even with all the bad parts, it had enough in it to save it for me and not make it a total loss.

The bad.. Twins. The cold blooded killer autobots. Seriously.. What happened to the peace and harmony? It starts with the murder of a seemingly peacefull decepticon who had been helping to build new housing in one of china's largest cities..

And the twins.. there's no words to describe how much I hated them.. Or wheelie. Goddamn the voice of his annoyed me.

And ofcourse pussifying Megatron.. Starscream kicked ass and took names again, at some parts.. and at some parts he was pussified beyond Megatron.. and the Fallen? Meh.

The good.. Action scenes.. Ravage.. Some good scenes with Optimus Prime. Sound effects. I love the transforming sounds in those two movies. I dont know why.. I just do.

Here's something that made the movie slightly more entertaining to me in retrospect.

But yea.. For myself.. What can I say.. Even though majority of the movie sucked, there was enough in it that I will prolly get the dvd to go with my dvd of the first movie. Waiting for the third one now.. Hopefully no writers strikes to fuck that one up.
• DarthCaligulaDarthCaligula Elite Ranger
You're actually going to buy this movie on DVD when it comes out? Why?
• Forget dvd, I'm gettin' it on blu-ray!

And as to the why, because I was thoroughly entertained by the movie!
