Fans bring down Fox

WORFWORF The Burninator
Sadly not the entire network but this is still funny.

Miracle Laurie (Dollhouse) posted the telephone number of Fox for fans to call and ask about Dollhouse being renewed. So many people did that it crashed the line and now Sarah Connor and Dollhouse fans are arguing over which group did it :D

It's not just Fox, CBS cancelled The Unit (and other shows) as well. At least it ran for 4 seasons, so it will live on in syndication.

I think there is just as big a gap between TV and its viewers, than there is between the movie studios/record labels and their customers. They have no clue what is going on. There is only so much TV you can endure. I also think people don't like their commercials being interrupted by their favourite programs.

Anyway, it was fun while it lasted.

God damn it. I saw The Unit's cancellation coming, especially after such a shitty season 4, but god damn it. I don't have any shows left to watch.
  • I still need to watch The Unit.
  • Dramatic TV is dying.

We all thought Reality TV would be dead by the middle of the decade. Its almost the end of the decade and its as strong as it ever has been.

I'm not so sure the reality TV shows pull strong ratings. I mean American Idol has held the top Nielson ratings (flawed as thy may be), for 4 years now. From 2001 to now 6 out of 9 of the top rated shows were game shows or reality tv.

Last year the top 6 was the american idol and dancing with the stars episodes.

I have a feeling there isn't a gap, the network studios know exactly what is going on and what will make them the most money.

The gap in so far exists that the goals of both parties are hard to reconcile. Their purpose is to make money, ours is presumably to escape from reality for 45 minutes at a time and watch brain-teasing entertainment. They try to find concepts that'll last them 10, 15 or more years but those are difficult to find.

I guess we, who watch those drama shows, are not part of the lowest common denominator. We are not part of these masses that watch so-called reality and game shows, singing and dancing contests. Consider yourself a dying species as our market share is shrinking.

We are doomed... to read books again. :D

Vertigo, do yourself a favor and make "Play 16" of the 3rd season the last episode you watch. It's all downhill from there.

Here's a page that lists most shows that have come to an end, been cancelled or renewed.
  • I will miss The Unit, along with Sarah Connor. Unfortunately I've lost the passion to save shows like I had with Jericho. I have moved into Acceptance territory.

    F*ck the Man.
