New Phone Time!

JohnnyOnTheSpotJohnnyOnTheSpot Banned by request
Okay so a walk in the rain is probably is not the best idea for a cellulite phone.

As I'm walking the bloody thing disintegrates in front of my eyes.

(So much for the durability of stainless steel) "Well doc its destroyed."

So recommendations?

Should I abort my plan and switch to ATAT go for an Iphone?

Or should I continue with Vertical Horizon and get a blackberry variant?

Hrm, good timing on the question...anyone have any suggestions on non-Iphone touchscreen? I know I can get a good deal on a VU through work.

    iphone.

I know its gimmicky and made by apple, and full of marketing puff. But the reality is, in terms of phones it is the most powerful, and best designed phone on the market. And on top of that, its really, really easy to use.

Yeah what he said and the apps for iPhone keep growing and growing the blkbry app store is trying to compete but it just can't and jail breaking is easy as pie

Here is the thing Johnny... I resisted the iphone. I was already an att customer, and I resisted the iphone. Last year I upgraded to an att tilt, which is made by HTC, it is a windows powered phone.

Its a nice phone, the biggest thing I like about it is the real tactile keyboard for texting. It still has a touchscreen, and being a windows phone, lots of software options. Eventually, I flashed the ROM with a version of software designed to make look like the slightly more advanced HTC Fuse with the touchflo software. It made operating the phone MUCH nicer than it was with its original software.

All that being said, I wish I had bought a dam iphone. The software upgrade process was thoroughly unenjoyable. Im pretty confident in my technical abilities and it was STILL a pain in the ass.

I can do a lot of things with my phone, but it takes a lot of extra steps to do them vs iphone applications.

Prime example. I have directv, and they let you remotely with your phone set your dvr to record shows. On my phone, I launch opera mobile, go to the website, log in (my info is saved), go to the link that lets me access remote recording, browse through the shows then select it to record. On the iphone, you click on the directv app, your info is already stored so no logging in and no clicking on a link. Just click the app and your already browsing shows.

Its just easy to use. Apps for everything, make it more than just a phone. My wife is eligible for an upgrade in June, shes getting an iphone. I have to wait till next year, or pay full price.

take your index finger and your thumb, pinch them together, touch them both to the screen and open your fingers touching the screen.

Indeed I did. I'll go on the record as saying this is the first apple product I really like.

*Note that I also acknowledge that OSX is not a bad operating system, especially with the Unix core, my main gripe with Apple stems from the people that use them and remain clueless as to what the operating system is capable of, and the insane pricing.

I love my iPhone, and a friend of mine develops for it, so he's had the new OS upgrade for a few weeks now, and loves it, cut and paste works sweet!

Still no Slingbox app for the iPhone yet, or Hulu, but other than that, i love it.

Second/third/fourth/fifthed the iPhone. I have an iPod Touch and I can't begin to express how much I love it. the iPhone is just the next logical step forward in functionality.

Also, I'd suggest against jailbreaking if only because it can fuck up your shit :P for the iPod, losing your crap won't matter much, but for the iPhone, it's your phone!

I haven't jailbroken mine, and have had very little problem finding an app to do what i want.

I'm poor so I made the effort to download the entire iphone library off of the pirates

I think when my contract comes up for renewal next year I'll get one. I very nearly got one this time round (ie. about 6months ago) but still wasnt too sure about them, but I figure another year and they'll be have most of the remaining bugs ironed out

I still find it shocking that it's taken Apple so long to implement such a fundamental feature.
  • Entil'ZhaEntil'Zha I see famous people
As do I, also running apps in the background would be nice. the iPhone is definately not without its flaws.
  • DaxDax Redshirt
well if you back up your shit then you will be able to restore after jailbreaking.. unlocking is the more riskier route
  • SanfamSanfam I like clocks.
actually, unlocking is easy. I've heard good things about using the SIM interrupts on the iPhone. Cheap, reliable, no actual modification.

im disappointed in the phone, its battery life is so abysmal, making it difficult on long distance runs. my other phone lasted tripple the amount of time this one did.
  • BigglesBiggles The Man Without a Face
I have the same problem with my ipod nano (latest version). I get a measly 3 to 4 hours out of it.
  • A2597A2597 Fanboy
with heavy use, and everything turned on (Bluetooth, wireless, etc) and default settings to check your e-mail ever 15 minutes, yea. Forget getting a couple days out of it.

Moderate use, turning off features you are not presently using, and telling it to check your e-mail far less often, you can easily get a full day out of it. Add in a dock at a couple locations where you'll be (Home, office) and you'll never have to worry about battery life. There are many articles online about increasing your batterylife on an Iphone, some for up to 3 days. (Although that kind of ruins the fun of it ;) ) Generally, so long as I can go from morning to night on a single charge, thats all I need. the knowledge for 3 day periods for roadtrips, etc.
  • SanfamSanfam I like clocks.
the battery life is part of why I won't own an iPhone. Also, not having the ability to use it in the winter with gloves on is another.

My current phone will idle for five days in a high signal area. add in a few hours of talking and I'm still in the three day range. extended batteries bring it up to 10 days of mixed use. the iPhone lacks the ability to extend its life. Kind of the big downside of being a giant screen. :P I can live with my iTouch having unbearably awful battery life because I use it primarily for games, but my phone needs to be able to last at least one full day.
  • A2597A2597 Fanboy
as stated, it's not that difficult to get it to last a full day, even with moderate use. (I'm saying 3G here, not just talking).

Just have to turn off the features you are not using to do it. or keep docks handy. :)
