Oh well. After Battlestar, SciFi will have nothing that interest me anyway.
I guess they just don't get it. It's hopeless.
Low-budget CGI Monster Movie Channel

I mean, sure, we had widescreen B5 in 2000 and Battlestar and maybe some Firefly reruns, but the channel just is nothing compared to what it was in the 90s. Tons of quality shows back then...it was pretty much the only channel that had Anime until like '98, I remember it showed the widescreen Star Wars trilogy in like '93 (back then it was impossible to see it widescreen, as VHS's were almost exclusively full screen and the special edition didn't come out for another few years), 2001 was shown on it, other classic SF movies, etc. They didn't have much in the way of original shows (then again, no cable network at the time did, really), but that's really a minor point.
What the hell happened?

You beat me to it! :D
Oh boy. "SyFy" sounds SO HIP, man! What the hell is that even supposed to mean?
Terrible management. None of the staff operating the Scifi channel ever had anything more than beancounter-level interest in the genre. They tried to continually tap into the money contained within the segment, but never had the slightest clue as to how it actually worked.
After their initial management change in the 1999-2000 season, the entire network lost its focus and alienated its fanbase. TPTB at the time seemed to believe that by reducing focus on the more obscure material would result in a larger audience tuning in. Instead, they alienated the core fanbase and dropped licenses for shows people were actually viewing.
Tuesday Night Wrestling is the perfect example of this. That decision, while good for ratings, destroyed their audience and resulted in a significant long-term reduction of regular viewers.
The network is doomed. I guess it's a good thing they have Caprica. They'll probably love Law & Order with just a small twist of the future.
have you seen the talkback at Scifiwire? i've never seen that many comments.
....And they really show wrasslin on the Skiffy Channel now? What the hell? I've even lost interest in BSG. The only show I really care about is The Venture Brothers now. I've really lost interest in most TV.

I believe what you are trying to say is Caprica = Galactica 1980
But after Galactica (depending on how Caprica goes), that's the only thing I watch on the Channel formerly known as SciFi. They don't even show Enterprise (I'm one of the ten people that liked it) in HD.
And they've had wrestling for three years or so now.

Speedvision and TechTV hurt me the most. For the former, two days after purchase, half of all foreign content licenses were dropped. By the end of the month, World Rally Championship episodes were scheduled down to one fifth their original coverage. Soon after that, NASCAR took over and displaced any remaining non-US content and most of their original shows. It was terrible. TechTV's "acquisition" by comcast was just brutal. It was "equitably merged" with G4, while all but three of its shows were outright cancelled that week and all but a few of the hosts completely abandoned by the new hybrid network. The latter was effectively an anti-competitive measure by Comcast, while the former was FOX trying to tap into an existing media outlet.

Well the wrestiling is fiction, but definately not science.
Having discovered that scifi fans don't generally watch wrestling, Scifi is attempting to expand its audience.
Caprica = The drama of Galactica without any of those pesky expensive battles.
Caprica Hills 90210.
I see a pattern of niche market channels all becoming the same. They start out as small channels the a staff that really knows what they are doing, they become mildly successful, they are bought by a large company then as was pointed out above, in an attempt to reach a larger audience, they bland out the content. SciFi, TechTV & Speedvision are all good examples.
I've never understood why execs see a succesful channel, buy it, then gut the stuff that made it succesful and wonder why it starts to fail.
Well, I guess without any decent SciFi shows they can't justify using SciFi in their name :p
heretic!!!!!
Which is one of my point, season to season, Enterprise beats DS9 every time. S1 of E beats S1 of DS9, S2 of E beats S2 of DS9 and so on..
