Oh please, no. Don't let Will Smith be in an adaptation of Oldboy. Please no! I loved the Korean movie adaptation of it, though I've never read the manga, and it was one of the best movies I've ever seen! It's like the perfect example of what Hollywood wishes it could do! And it's bad enough that Hollywood wants to do it, but Will Smith in it?!!!! Haven't we suffered enough with I, Robot and I Am Legend?! PLEASE GOD NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
After this movie comes out, I'll never be able to mention the Korean Oldboy movie without some moron thinking of the Will Smith movie, just like they did to I, Robot!

    Did you read the book? They killed it with the movie, especially with the happy Hollywood ending. It was also supposed to be Vampires instead of zombies, and vampires are always so much cooler regardless

    SD, Not only is it Vampires, but in the book, you get such great insight into WHY vampires are vampires, why they fear light/crosses/garlic. IT was just such a poor adaptation of the book (IMHO)

    Exactly, there was so much more to the book that was at best only hinted at in the movie (like the infected retaining intelligence)

    no, never read the book. Never saw The Omega Man either. That's probably why I was easier to please, so far as I Am Legend goes.

    well, the whole 'skin starts to sizzle when I walk out into the sun' is kinda vampirish.

    The alternate ending was MUCH more "happy Hollywood" than the one in the movie on the Blu-Ray (don't know which one was in theaters?).

    Ah well I didnt know they'd made an alternate ending. Suffice to say, the one in theatres ended with [sp]them finding the cure and the happy place, whereas in the book we all die off.[/sp] In spoilers just in case anyone hasnt seen it

    You should read the book then, it's actually more of a short story or Novella, it's only about 150 pages long, but well worth reading.

    I read that they did originally have the ending that the book had (I never read the book though), but when they prescreened with with some audience, they didn't like how it ended, so they made the "and they all live happily ever after" and XPLOSIOINZ ending.

    Yes, because adding the original ending to the modified film wouldnt work. it just wouldnt fit.

    Well, Spoiler: if you thought the XPLOSIOINZ/ happily ever after ending was too Hollywood: in the alternate ending, he sees the butterfly tattoo on the vampire/zombie lady that he found the cure with after the alpha zompire drew a butterfly in blood on the glass. Dr. Fresh Prince realizes OMGZ they're people still! So he turns off the magic cure machine, the lady becomes a zompire again, he opens the door, alpha zompire takes his lady and lets Dr. Lowry live along with the woman and the little girl (boy? I can't remember). Then all three set off in a car together for the fabled colony. He has his new family, and the cure formula in his head. Fin.


    Spoiler: Oh but the dog still dies. Suck.

    Well, I just saw it and the alternative ending was more.. interesting. I thought the movie was ok though, will be interesting to read it afterwards.

    Its showing on paytv here so I watched it to see what it was all about, it wasn't a bad movie but its wouldn't be something I wouldn't go out and buy though. I thought the ending was very weak , they were building up to the climax and then it fizzled :(
    Spoiler: The ending they had was he gives the cure to the lady and her lad and they drive off to this colony and he's dies in the explosion with the zombie people

    I guess they could go even worse. Let's wait for the Neon Genesis Evangelion movie with Whoopi Goldberg as Rei. I mean, why the fuck not?
