Dollhouse

WORFWORF The Burninator
Joss Whedon's new show starts tonight. I haven't been following the hype/spoilers so don't know too much about it.

Hoping it'll be good, although not too fond of Eliza Dushku.

• *fingers crossed* I hope it sucks...then I don't have to get hooked on it just in time for Fox to cancel it, like they are doing with Sarah Conner and it's death move to Friday night.

Idiots.

Dollhouse is already in the Friday night slot. It's obvious what's going to happen. :D
• it was so-so. that's all I got.

Buffy, Angel and Firefly all had better first episodes but I see the potential here so I'll keep watching. I also wonder how many Galactica references they'll throw in.

I actually liked it. Very interesting method of character growth, since you basicly resetting the character for each episode. It makes you build the core character one small block at a time, since most of the episode is the "alternate" character. I am also interested to see which of the "handlers" become the most conflicted about what they are doing.

• I'm not getting too attached yet. It'll get canceled. Sarah Connor will get canceled. The Unit will get canceled.

And American Idol will stay on the air.

Frak it all.

While the show's premise has potential I feel that the execution does not match its ambitions. The cast is rather bland, a few instances of overacting make certain scenes look less than convincing. Tahmoh "Helo" Penikett is completely wasted in this episode.

An asthmatic field agent with psychological issues doing hostage negotiations, even if it's only an implanted persona, is not very credible. A hostage negotiator is someone like Doc Cottle... not like Bambi with glasses.

I'd say that people who have been complaining about Fringe will shred Dollhouse to pieces. It's nowhere near as good as Firefly. It's definitely not Whedon's best work. He should have hired Captain Tightpants.

Funny thing is, if I had to compare the production values to another show I really liked, I'd have to pick B5. :D Somewhat campy and yet likable.

I am reliably informed the show really takes off with episode 5.

And you are positive that Fox is going to air the episodes in between? :D
• WORFWORF The Burninator
I can't promise that much.

Or episode 5, for that matter...

It is, after all, Fox.
• StingrayStingray Elite Ranger
I don't care enough at this point to really worry about it.

Must watch this, just to see Elizha on screen again.

Even if Fox doesn't cancel it, I think Dollhouse is going to be a one season show after I read this.

Well, the comments left by the readers show the definite trend that I felt while watching the pilot.

Looks to me like Whedon's just fulfilling his contractual requirements before leaving the ship. Shows done by a director who cares about his work are quite different from what we saw.

I can only wish him well on this future endeavors.

I'm quite happy to get more things like Dr Horrible than more things like Dollhouse.
• WORFWORF The Burninator
I thought the second episode was much better.

• Worf, I agree.
• FreejackFreejack Jake the Not-so-Wise
Definitely better, and gives us the actual main plot line, [SP]Alpha. So given that she's Echo, she's the fifth. I need to go back and see if there were 3 bodies around her in the shower area.[/SP]

Episode #2 was definitely far better.
• StingrayStingray Elite Ranger
Yep, I agree, second one was way better. I really don't understand how they got to make it after delivering a pilot like that. I guess they got a chance at rectifying the shortcomings and there is hoping that the show will take off before getting canceled.
• WORFWORF The Burninator
The second episode is the real pilot, the first episode was made later...for some reason.

The Train Job, anyone?
• StingrayStingray Elite Ranger
Apparently, nobody....
• croxiscroxis I am the walrus
I must be one of the few people who liked the first episode. I agree it wasn't great or brilliant and see how some didn't like it, but it was enough to make me watch the next episode. Which was definitely better.

Biggles, no one but us likes trains it appears :(
