And so it ends (Atlantis)

WORFWORF The Burninator
The final episode (until the movies) has aired).

[SP]A Wraith attack on Earth, an interesting idea except for one problem: this really should have been a two part episode. The whole time it seemed like a rush through and I never really felt that the planet was in danger.

I guess they figured they should try and go for an epic series finale but tried to cram it all into 45 minutes.[/SP]

True enough. But now it is finished and I will miss it.

They found out the show was ending fairly late in the season (even later than SG-1), while filming 4x18. They probably had no time at all to revise "Vegas" at all, and I have to wonder how much they could've changed with "Enemy at the Gate." At the very least, the coda had to be added on.

    That would explain it.

One thing I did like was the reference to [sp]General Hammond[/sp]

  • goodbye Atlantis dudes! It definitly felt rushed.
I don't understand how the Asgard beams didn't do much damage, considering we've seen those same beams tear apart Ori motherships. Also, I find it kinda lame how they so easily wiped out the Ancient chair - And that there was no one manning it at the time. Ah, and I was excited for the brief moment I thought the SG writers were finally going to make the Stargate public to the Earth (what with the Atlantis descent over the sea).. But nope, another reset.
I'm currently coming in episode 3x02, so I won't be visiting this thread any more :)

It was a good episode I thought, but definitely way too rushed. In a way I'm glad that we dont have to wait for a movie to finish the story, on the other hand a movie would have allowed it to be a far more epic finale.

I know Atlantis has had its detractors (*cough* Sanfam *cough*), but I'm really going to miss tuning in for my weekly does. Yes there's Universe coming, and it may be good, but its not Atlantis or SG-1. And there's not really anything else IMO to replace it. Ok there's BSG, but only 10 episodes and then thats gone. There's nothing else out there that I really like, and nothing as fun.

[sp]I was disappointed we didnt get to see the wormhole drive, although I did think 'where did that idea come from suddenly'.

And I did like how they killed Ronan, it was very sudden, but as much as I like having him around, I'm not sure bringing him back to life was so good

And yes, the reference to General Hammond was very touching, especially the look on Carter/Tapping's face just as she's about to turn away. You could really tell it was genuine emotion there[/sp]

As a former lover of Atlantis, I can say that I will absolutely miss many of the interpersonal relationships forged during its run. The McKay-Sheppard pair was simply one of the greatest duos on screen. Early on, the writers seemed to feel very comfortable with the characters presented to them, allowing most of the cast to function rather among one another. Ronin's development was fairly remarkable given his character archetype's tendency to do nothing of the sort. And the whole Ancients premise was great. Wish it had been returned to on a more regular basis. Perhaps the movies will hit these points again, picking up where the arcs left off mid-swoop.

But I'll refrain from commenting more on this show as everyone from IRC knows where I will end up :P I'm upset that the show is gone, but I will survive.

It will be back in DVD form.

My hope is that it'll find its roots once there, similar to what SG-1 apparently did. (Not that I've seen continuum, but everyone seemed to suggest it was rather decent.)

Watched the finale on Sky tonight. It was good with the obvious holes and general rushed feel already commented on.
Indeed the reference to Gen Hammond was really really nice. And yeah you could tell the emotion was real. A fitting moment.

I originally read by accident that the finale was going to be Michael laying siege to the city with his new rebuilt fleet. Obviously that didn't pan out with the season ending sooner. However I don't know how accurate the spoiler was. Shame as they was a lot of loose ends left open, such as the Pegasus Asgard to name just one.
Its a shame its gone as despite the flaws and getting pissed off with it on more than one occasion, I always had a soft spot for it. Of the characters I will miss, Todd is top of the list. Christopher Heyerdal is a brilliant actor and he brought a real presence to his Wraith character. Even in a poor episode his lines helped salvage something and generally brought a chuckle.

Sanfam, Continuum was good, worth watching, Art of Truth was meh.
