croxiscroxis I am the walrus
I went to Orycon again this year, and like the past few years the resident movie reviewer and rumor specialist announced the current status of things. I posted the stuff here: http://croxis.net/archive/2008-11-23/orycon-30-tv-and-movies

I have to say, there's very little in that list to get me excited. It mostly seems to be sequels that shouldnt be made and remakes of remakes
• "Fahrenheit 451 moving forward Gibson still attached. More action oriented tone"

Oh boy. Probably another I, Robot like abomination. Hell, they might as well throw Will Smith into this one as well.

Looking at that list, I have to say yet again: They've run out of ideas.
• Vorlons in my HeadVorlons in my Head The Vorlons told me to.
Nothing terribly spectacular but definately a few things that caught my attention.

Blade Runner 2? I suppose it could be interesting if done right but most likely they'll just kill it with cgi like they did with indy.

I'll give Terminator 4 a chance just because I generally like anything Bale does.

jms has walked away from from Babylon 5. Lost tales did far far beyond any expectations (as Babylon 5 has always done). WB only offered 2 million budget for the second installment,t he same as the first. Due to the clout jms is gaining as writer of the Changeling and because he is being given fantastic offers for other projects, he told WB no. They upped it to 5 million, he said no. nothing >short of a feature film is acceptable now.

Well I think this is it. If JMS can't get the feature film now it's probably never going to happen.

Eureka probably coming back.

Probably? WTF this is their only remaining good show.

Indi 5 is now being kicked around. Ford, Lucas, all are excited

No surprise there. Being a sucker for Indy I'd be excited. I don't care what anyone thinks :P

Caprica has fallen into black hole. Rumor is the peoples are not happy with it. Pilot is done and no official release date has been set, not a good sign. Some Razor like movies with the BSG cast has been set.

I'm certainly not excited about it after reading about it's apparently absurd concept.

I'd also take another X-Files movie if they can make something that doesn't feel like a 2 part episode.

Oh, and I'd definately love a Star Wars movie between 3 and 4 if it dealt with the rebellion. Hopefully it would feel like playiing X-Wing :D
• SanfamSanfam I like clocks.
I'd hope Indy is acting as counter to Star Trek's Odd-numbered curse, with evens being the killers instead. :p

As far as TV goes, I no longer have cable television. I felt nothing was broadcast that was anywhere near worthwhile to watch that I can't view legitimately online.

Caprica seemed like Law and Order with safety paper.

As far as Star Wars, I'd love the Thrawn Trilogy. The entire old crew is a fine age for the job.

Terminator 4 might suck, but everything I hear about its development and how Bale influenced its path leads me to think it will be fantastic.

Especially interested in the Arrested Development movie. Glad to see that is going forward. :P

Aye. Sequels and remakes are safe. The writer's strike but the studios even more into safe mode than before. The problem with sequels and remakes? They sell. They sell very well. They probably sell even better than new, intelligent movies.
• ShadowDancerShadowDancer When I say, "Why aye, gadgie," in my heart I say, "Och aye, laddie." London, UK
Thats good then, because they dont seem to have any new, intelligent movies, or even ideas.

They just cant leave something finished in an artistic sense anymore, they have to run it into the ground and leave a smoking crater. It's like they've forgotten that movies and film making is art; all it is to them now is a business, and thats why its started to go all wrong.
• Entil'ZhaEntil'Zha I see famous people
i just finally saw Indy 4, and i can definately saythat i now see why people didn't like it, It kind of breaks some of the rules that were set down in the first 3 movies.

But with that being said, i did enjoy much of it, obviously, i had a big problem with it being Spoiler: Inter Dimensional Aliens and Indy in the Fridge was a bit much. oh yes, and Shia swinging in the trees with monkies with pompadors, yes, that went way to far
• ShadowDancerShadowDancer When I say, "Why aye, gadgie," in my heart I say, "Och aye, laddie." London, UK
I want to see the new Indy movie, but I just cant bring myself to part with the money to get the dvd when I know that I'm going to be majorly disappointed by it. I think I'll wait until I can get it in the bargin bin
• DaxDax Redshirt
*sigh* lack of original idea but like you said.. no one's willing to take a risk... F-451 *could* be good but Mel Gibson starring or directing? Starring maybe but directing? god I hope not.
• MessiahMessiah Failed Experiment
Transformer: Revenge of the Fallen is in late production and post production stages.
So looking forward to that one :D
hell raiser remake.
Huh? Interesting, wonder if theyll remake all of them. :p
Prince of Persia is being filmed (YUM).
Awesome!

Thanks Croxis, interesting list.
• Entil'ZhaEntil'Zha I see famous people
I wasn't willing to part with the $$$ for the new indy, but i got it on Blu-Ray from Netflix
• "Under Siege 3 with ufo slant"
This can be so bad that it could be awesome! Steven Seagal!
• JohnnyOnTheSpotJohnnyOnTheSpot Banned by request
Bladerunner 2!

HOLY SHIT oh man I hope so!

AND STEVEN SEAGAL!
• ShadowDancerShadowDancer When I say, "Why aye, gadgie," in my heart I say, "Och aye, laddie." London, UK
But I dont want a Bladerunner 2! I like the original just fine thanks, with all the ambiguity and unanswered questions. I dont want a modern sequel that owes nothing to the original and spells out everything so the idiot with the lowest IQ in the theatre doesnt feel left out!
• BigglesBiggles The Man Without a Face
Any Bladerunner 2 is guaranteed to be an action movie. This won't necessarily make it a bad movie, but, like the new Star Trek movie looking to not be Star Trek, it's just not Bladerunner.
• Bladerunner 2 with ford and young would be awseome
• ShadowDancerShadowDancer When I say, "Why aye, gadgie," in my heart I say, "Och aye, laddie." London, UK
Bladerunner 2 not being made would be awesome. Any sequel is just going to detract from the sheer brilliance of the original.

Modern filmmakers just cant make sequels any more, because its never about the film or the story, its purely about money. The original Bladerunner was never about action, it was about the philosophical question of what it means to be human. A sequal would be about pretty explosions and ways of killing replicants that are ok because they're not human.....thats not the point!

• I still haven't seen Blade Runner, though I hear it's supposed to be good. I pretty much agree with your sentiments, ShadowDancer.
• ShadowDancerShadowDancer When I say, "Why aye, gadgie," in my heart I say, "Och aye, laddie." London, UK
You have to watch it! Its one of the best classic scifi movies of all time IMHO! Just don't go expecting lots of stuff to blow up or anything like that, its all about the stuff that isnt said, if you get what I mean ;)
