Re: Stargate SG1

question here...been rewatching stargate SG1, from the start. And I just finished Season 7, with Jack Frozen and General Hammond gone from teh SGC, and Weir in charge of the stargate, etc.

My question is this. Are the final seasons worth watching? This is the point where my life got a bit to busy to watch it on a weekly basis, and seeing as how I cannot picture stargate without Jack, Teal'c Carter and Danial...I'm ready to stop watching it before they screw it up. (Which is pretty much how I viewed bringing in Farscape actors, the whole Atlantis mess, and the "bad ancients"...as in, should have let it die, but wanted to make money, and thus didn't).

So, knowing that I don't care about farscape, and as such seeing those actors in SG1 isn't an incentive to watch, and that the whole atlantis thing turned Stargate into Star Trek IMHO (A bad thing) .... are the final seasons worth watching, or will it only taint what up to this point has been an exceptional series?

  • 8th season is a must see, 9th season is mostly crap, 10th season is quite ok.

Of course one has to remember to follow what's going on in SG Atlåntis at the same time with the last three seasons of SG-1, because some of the events are intertwined between the two series.

I stopped my Stargate DVD collection after season 8. The final two were pretty horrible.

Most of them are still a part of Season 8, so watch.
  • ok, so 8 is a go. :)

    Thanks guys.

9 and 10 are worth it in order to get the backstory for the first strait-to-DVD movie, which was quite good. Plus there are battles :p

9 is hard to sit through though. But 10 is better.

8 offers a perfectly lovely conclusion that lets you finish the show with a sense of satisfaction. 9 completely fails to provide any redeeming value, and 10 offers a bit more, but from what I've seen nothing too great. I have not seen all of season 10, so it might be worth taking my advice with a gain of salt. I do, however, suggest watching '200.' Even if you don't see S9 or S10, it's pretty much a throw-back to S1-8 with Ben Browder and Claudia Black present because they were paid to be there.
  • I can only say that yea season 9 and 10 were ok, but seeing Claudia Black was well worth it! She's a complete fluzie and shows alot, and is completly evil. She even gets burned alive once. It has it's sad moments durring a few battles... sigh.. I need to get continuum to finish my collection... oh yea and the first stargate movie... I don't have that yet on dvd.

I hate to say it, but I don't care for episode "200"

I think a funnier episode than 200 is the one... can't remember season or title... is where Jack and Teal'c are stuck in a time loop at the SGC.

I think theyre both worth watching. As said, season 9 is a bit weak, but its not as bad as some series.

Season 8 is very good, thou it has its share of poor episodes in there. I think they were at a bit of a loss for what direction to go, but there are still some really good ones there. Season 9 was terrible, but some of the battles are good. Season 10 was a drastic improvement, thou still not great.

I tend to think of Seasons 9 & 10 as a new show to be honest, making 9 the usual weak first season, with 10 where it starts to hit its stride again. But nothing will ever replace the original SG1 for me either.

Hunt, that is my favorite episode ever!

Season 9 had that 'Aw no, what are they going to do now!' feeling but it kind of faded out fast, like with the Wraith.
